I was on the J&G sales site and found they have a number of S&W frames/barrel with yoke for sale - No "innerds" so to speak.
I was thinking of getting one and then ordering parts through Brownell's to flesh it out. Yeah I could probably get a complete/used one cheaper but it would be a nice project to do indoors in the heat of summer. Does anyone know if there are any legal issues I would need to know about? Anyone reading this post done this sort of project - I'm sure some have I live in Phx so going there and getting one without an FFL is not an issue I could not find a similar thread on a site search, if there is point me to it. The frame is the serial numbered part and thus the BATF controlled item. To buy you will have to go through the same paperwork as if buying a complete gun I believe.
Any indication of age? That could determine the availability of parts for doing a complete gun assembly. Do the guns include the side plate? That is individually fitted to the frame and may not be available. It is normally a factory fitted part only, not for sale for fitting outside the factory per the parts catalog. |

If you do the complete rebuild yourself, it will run you more than buying a minty model up front. I don't care 1911s or S&W revolvers, it's cheaper to buy the complete firearm.
