I have a 629 with a frame mounted firing pin that broke while a friend was dry firing. What is the replacement procedure and where should I get the parts?

I'm Not sure what type of Firing Pin you have by just the designation 629..
If there's a pin through the frame behind the recoil shield that style uses a firing pin bushing that's held by that pin.. On the newer style S&Ws you simply remove the sideplate & pull the small firing pin indexing pin & the Pin & spring can be removed out the rear.. Here's a Post a Made a while back with a few pics of my 940 when I replaced the firing pin, It had the firing pin bushing that came out the front..The fellow in this thread had a 617 22lr 617 Firing Pin Stuck Good Luck & There are lots of Great Tips in the FAQs Area as Well, Here's It's Link. Call S&W they have the parts. Order another return spring while your on the phone.
Headknocker has already pointed you to the replacement info. 5 minute fix, thats counting the grips being put back on. NRA Benefactor Member |

I appreciate the posts, but the firing pin is hammer mounted not frame mounted. I will check the series number of the 629 when I get home, but It is an older power ported model. It lookke to be "riveted" in to the hammer.

Sorry from the confusion. It is a 629-4 with a hammer mounted firing pin. Apparently I was thinking one thing and typing another.

Just call them and order a hammer nose, hammer nose rivet and a spring if equipted. It's around 10 bucks plus shipping. It might be a free repair too, just ask about the warrantee.
To fix it you need to drill out the old rivet and put the new parts it. The rivet needs to be crimped on one side, use a punch and tap around it while laying the hammer flat on a hard surface. If your good you could take the old rivet apart and tap it off, but I like to replace stuff for a couple bucks more. Good luck with it. NRA Benefactor Member |

500,
Thanks for the information. I will call S&W and ask them about it today. I agree and plan to replace the entire assembly. |
