The only pin I have had to deal with so far is the lanyard ring retainer on my 1917. It drifted out easily with the end of a paperclip.
My 'new' safety hammerless seems to require 'real' punches for disassembly--the spring retainer on the front of the grip frame clearly needs a dainty little punch. What punch sizes are needed for the Safety Hammerless, for S&Ws in general? What are good resources for gunsmithing (or appropriate civilian) punches? Thanks |

Brownells. They have a GREAT catalog and a ton of tools as well as a fair selection of parts. Everybody buys tools from them at one time or another. Good people to do business with.

Just a bump to reemphasise the primary question.
What punch sizes are needed to disassemble a Safety Hammerless? Most sets I have seen go down to 1/16 inch. I can see two different sized pins of very small diameter, not wanting to carry a gun into the local hardware store, I wonder if anyone knows just what sizes are needed. Thanks |

I have been wondering the same thing myself. I have a Safety hammerless that needs the front sight off to be straightned. To do it right it would require a punch with a concave tip to fit the domed head pin.
I just am not sure what size is required to work on these older Smith's Watchman, what of the night? The watchman said, The morning cometh and also the night...Isaiah 20: 11,12.
