What's a good way to get a bushing out that's real tight?
I tried prying it up with the blank end of the bushing wrench and it wouldn't move. This is a new pistol.. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Bugs100, |

Hi Bugs,
If it is a 1911 I have had to turn the bushing to where it is ready to come forward and "Slidehammer" it out with the barrel. I'd remove the slide from the frame, let the bbl slide forward through the bushing and repeatedly pull it forward tapping out the bushing. You can see in the recoil spring tunnel when the lug on the bushing is set to come forward I'd use it with a good light oil like Rem-oil or WD40 around the bushing to help it slide. Good luck and I hope this helps Mike |

Several companies fit bushing that tight. Turn the bushing to the point where it will come out and pull the barrel up through and tap it out from the rear that way. Prying on it is NOT a good idea and probably won't work anyway.
Don't install the bushing without the barrel as then you'll have a more difficult time removing it. 'Lynnie', NRA Life Member. ***Smith & Wesson, the ultimate in 'Feminine Protection'*** "Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal. " - Albert Camus |

Apply a bit of Kroil around the Bushing at the Muzzle end and also with the Slide locked open apply some to the Barrel pointing it toward the Muzzle. Let it set over night or even two and try again.
While this might be giving away a "Trade Secret" and unless this gun is equipped with one of the full length Recoil Spring Guides, well, MAKE SURE THE GUN IS EMPTY and then simply pull the Slide slightly to the rear taking the Barrel "Out of Battery". You may or may not need to use a bushing wrench on the gun at this point. If this is one of the gun with the full length Recoil Spring Guide then simply that the Slide/Barrel Assembly off as a single unit and remove the Recoil Assembly then let the Barrel drop down out of Battery and remove the Bushing - using the wrench "ONLY" in necessary. Frankly. this If it is a 1911 I have had to turn the bushing to where it is ready to come forward and "Slidehammer" it out with the barrel. is a really dumb idea because if your Bushing is in "that tight" it is likely rusted or frozen in place and if this is the case I'd send it back to builder and tell him to do it Right. Get a bushing wrench and turn it 90 degrees (it turns only 1 way). Then use the barrel and tap it out. It won't hurt a thing.
