Hello folks. Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to smithing. I am in the process of buying a new model 22 of 1917. I have a 1917 barrel that I want to put on it and cut down to 4 inches. Does an older barrel work on a new smith?
Here's the barrel. I believe it would require a pin...is that a problem?

A "pinned" barrel will install on a non-pinned frame, and vice versa.

You are likely to have to fit and "clock" the replacement barrel on to the M22 frame (index front sight so it stands vertical). With a bit of luck, it just takes a few careful file strokes. Without luck, you will need access to a lathe and the skill to take several measured thousandths of an inch off the shoulder.
