I got a surprise tonight when re-assembling my 1911PD... the slide stop broke! As I pressed it in to place I heard a loud CRACK!!!

Here's what I saw:

I fired off an e-mail to S&W with this picture. I sure hope they'll send me the part without making me send back the gun. Frowner

That wouldn't be a MIM part would it?
My suggestion would be to get one of the ones George at EGW has, great parts and also carried by Brownell's.
I use the .200 oversize one in a couple of my 1911's and while it might not be a drop in on some guns it was on mine.

A/I, as Joni said.
The Kimber CDP (Govt. length) I bought for my Son suffered an identical failure at the exact same location. About 300 rounds through it at the time. Kimber over nighted a replacement for it, but I as usual was skeptical of that parts durability with that process employed. I ordered a Wilson forged bullet proof for it.

On my S&W 1911 which is Stainless STeel
had a stock slide stop, thumb safety and the
grip safety look to be non-stainless steel, if it's blued it's not very dark. I replaced my
slide stop with the WIlson Combat extended slide stop in stainless steel It extends back where I can more easily operate it.

Now y'all got me wondering about using it when I fire +P or with the .400 COrBon installed. I looked at the description of the WIlson Bullet Proof as well as the EGW
Thanks for for info. Joni, I did a google and found the EGW web site, looks like Good STuff(TM).

It is a MIM part. While they can be as strong as many investment cast parts, they can break, and will usually do so without many rounds fired, if they are going to break.

Ed Brown Hard Core, Wilson Bullet-Proof, or Greider forged slide stops will take care of the problem. Of course, good, GI WWII-era slide stops are great, but harder and harder to find.

Thanks lady and gents... MIM explains it! I think I'll look for a good replacement part. Wink

07/01 UPDATE: I called S&W and talked to a very nice gal named Kelly, she is sending a replacement today no questions asked!
That's great customer service!

I also ordered an Ed Brown Hard Core... thanks again for all the advise!
