Where exactly on the grip frame are the Hogues not fitting correctly?
I've had issues with some Hogue grips not fitting correctly when it came to slipping the middle 'tab' (harder plastic insert of Hogue's molded grip materials) over one or the other side of the frame to either side of where the hammer strut (stirrup) is located. I've had to file/adjust more than a few of them before they would slip over the frame as intended. Fastbolt:
I think you hit it on the head..the tab breaks when I tried to put them on and then they will not go over the frame to fit properly in the front..they seem to come up short and leave a gap to the magazine well behind the trigger..the smith who is working on it has ordered more than one from S&W and can not get it to fit..will forward the info you have to him..he is located in Woodland..send me an e-mail and I will forward the guys phone number and maybe you can call him and tell him how you fixed the problem..I sure would appreciate it..all5x |

If that is indeed the problem in your case ... and I've experienced it with Hogue grips on several S&W pistols ... it's actually pretty easy to correct once your gunsmith sees the problem area.
It's easiest to see it when the hammer spring isn't on the stirrup, too, so the area of the frame where the tab is supposed to go can be more easily seen, to make sure that this is the part of the grip that isn't fitting onto the frame properly. The it's easy to file the tab to mate with the frame. I just use the small 'square' jeweler's file to square off and relieve the inside of the tab which is intended to slip over the rear of the frame at that point. Sometimes it requires removing a bit more plastic on some of the tabs, thinning the inside dimension of the tab so it can be hooked over the frame with the right "Inward & Forward" pressure against the rear of the grip panel while sliding it onto the grip frame. Granted, sometimes I've had to judiciously use my 'plastic babbitt bar' ... otherwise known as the yellow plastic mallet armorers use I've also had the occasional grip panel tab which wasn't molded straight, and was thicker at one end (top or bottom) than the other. Hey, you're lucky you're installing the Hogue grips which use separate panels. The rubber wrap-around style (69XX/4013TSW) grips have given me the same problems, and it's harder to install those grips. You have to get one side installed and the wrap, pull & stretch the other side around the grip frame ...AND then pull the remaining side over far enough to slip the remaining tab over and down into the frame recess where it's supposed to go. I ruined a perfectly good set of grips before I figured out the tab fitting problem ... and since those aren't 'factory grips' on the 69XX/4013TSW pistols like they are on the CS series I had to pay for a couple of sets of those myself.
