What would be the best or proper method for removing light pitting from a revolver cylinder?

I would clean it good and live with it. You try anything else you can screw it up. Later John

Don't worry about it, it won't hurt a thing.
If you are having extraction issues then use a hone and polish it out. Remember to keep the extractor on the cylinder while doing the operation and use honing oil.

I've had good luck (as recommended here some time ago) using some Breakfree CLP and a toothbrush on the pitting. Afterwards, you don't need to give it otherwise special care, that I've seen. Keep some Breakfree on it while it's stored, shoot it, wipe it down with some Breakfree when you put it away at the end of the day. No big deal.

As a "testimony" I have a tri-square, ~30 yrs. old, was rusted so bad I couldn't read the gradations. One afternoon I rubbed it down with Breakfree- I got ~ 90% of it back, and I've been reading the hash marks with no problem, for the last year or two.

Have fun with it,
