Has anyone out there replaced the front-sight on
their Model 60 with a Meprolight? If so, is it
better than the XS Express Sight (Big Dot)?
Comments?

Better, is a relative term?
I found the big dot front (without modification to the rear notch) to be unsatisfactory for producing a recognizable sight picture, on a 1 7/8" J frame. What it is, is FAST! But for me anyway, "FAST", equaled not being able to hold them tighter than 3"- 4" @ 10 yards?
The Meprolite front blade I understand, is a standard front sight sizing, with it's Tritium vial surrounded by a white inlay.
HOWEVER!
Recently a Forum member posted about Q/C problems with the Meprolite product, relating off center, high, and low machining positioning of the vials in the blades? He stated he'd bought a half dozen of them, due to slow factory delivery of product to his supplier. He also said only 2 or 3, out of the 6 or so he'd ordered could be used, due to the above issues, IIRC?
Personally, I'd prefer the standard dot sizing. But there's a ton of folks here that swear by the B/D.
YMMV?

I find the Meprolight (ML11760) to be the one
most close to stock in size and sight-picture,
with no re-channeling of the sight-groove. I
found two online, one at AZ Gunrunner and one
at OfficerStore. Both said that they will get
more in July from manufacturer. They run about
$40 to $45 each and can be done by someone that
is familiar with tools. I opt to get mine done
by a local 'smith. Mine are being put on Model
60 with 2.25" barrel and 340PD.

Trijicon works well on my model 60.

I e-mailed Trijicon and they responded
that they do not have a version to fit
my J-frames that are pinned. They told
me that they made a high-blade for the
Model 60-Pro and that it was not for use
on the low-blade models. So, I took them
at their word and purchased Meprolight.
I have a Model 60-Pro and like their sight
on that.

Thanks for getting back to us with further info (and part numbers!) Tom!
Too many are never heard from again after initially posting? And so, no one else benefits from any of the knowledge they've acquired?
Isn't there an ammunition company using a tag line of,
"pass it on"?

More than happy to pass on the info.
I received a response from XS Sights
and their Big-Dot front-blade is part
#RV-0001N-3 and for the std.-dot it is
#RV-0001N-4.

The front sight-pin from S&W is part
# 077250000

Hope this helps anyone out there looking
for tritium-sights for their J-frames.

I just find the ToolTech jobs too pricey.
Meprolight goes for $45 plus the $20 for
the 'smith to do the replacement. I am
happier having him do it.

luangtom,
Would you please be so kind as to post some photos of the Meprolight sight on your Model 60 when it is finished. I had put a Big Dot on mine and was not satisfied with it and reinstalled the factory sight.
Regards,
Greg

The sight from AZ Gun Runners arrived on Friday.
I will contact the gun-smith on Monday for a day and a time to drop it off, hopefully, Tuesday or Wednesday. Then, I will attempt to display a photo or two of it. I am an inept old fool, when it comes to anything other than writing here and doing my e-mails. Sorry.
