Hello all,

I have quite a few SW revolvers and have noticed something curious about them.

With most of the revolvers, when I pull the trigger in double action mode there are two "clicks". However, with a couple of them, there is only one and where the second one should be (right before the hammer falls), there is not one.

Is this a defect? A timing problem? If on a used gun, a bad action job? Or simply, nothing to be concerned about?

Thanks everyone!

The first click you hear is the cylinder stop hitting the cylinder as it rises to catch the notch on the cylinder..if you do not hear the second click then it is time to look at a timing problem and possible replacement of the hand..this is a good test when looking at a used gun but you have to have good hearing of course..or look at it as the hammer is pulled back..make sure and try it with a couple of empty cases in the cylinder as the ejector can move a micro smiggen and throw things off..all5x

Thanks all5x. I will take a better look at them when I get home from work.

I wonder if S&W would cover this under warranty? I doubt it, since they are used guns......

Also if it's been a long time since a thorough interior cleaning has been done, the lube's being used can evaporate, leaving behind waxy or gummy deposits, that can keep things from functioning freely. Depending on how long it's been, you'd be amazed at the amount of gunk that can be found in there! Those small, low mass parts, pivots and springs don't like build up like that. Even though most of them keep functioning far beyond how long you'd think they could?

Spotteddog,

I hadn't thought of that, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it, especially on the used guns.

However, I have never taken the sideplate off and don't feel too confident in doing so. Without a video at least...

S&W would most likely cover repairs if they have not been monkeyed with by unqualified person, depending on year of manufacture, I think. S&W has a life time warranty, it does not matter if you are the orginal buyer. I would imagine someone here will give you the exact warranty requirements. If the defects are their fault they will even pay shipping both ways.
