I checked my profile and I have permission to use an avatar but I don't have permission to upload one. I use a picture of my 4506-1 on the TGO forum and would like to be able to upload it here and use it as my avatar. How do I do it? Do I have to have a certain amount of posts to be able to?
Thanks in advance.

SWF Avatar Instructions by bdGreen

Avatars

Choose your picture.
Resize the image to 60X60 pixels.
Upload the resized image to Photobucket and keep it stored there.
Now,
Go to the forum menu header and press

'GO'
'PERSONAL ZONE'
'PROFILE'

Mouse over and press 'View/Edit Complete Profile'
Scroll down to 'Avatar / Picture URL:'

Press

The empty white box under the 'Provide Custom Avatar: URL for your Custom Avatar' is where you will copy the URL from under the picture you have placed in Photobucket. This means go to the image in Photobucket. Under your image you will find

'URL'
'TAG'
'IMG'

Tap the left mouse button over the 'URL' box one time. The background should turn blue. Right click the location and scroll down to copy and click it.
Now,
go back to your "AVATAR Selection screen and paste your URL in the white box.

Press the 'UPDATE AVATAR' button
Then press 'Select This One'
You should see an immediate response. Your Avatar should pop up on your Public Profile Fields screen.

Go down to the lower left of the page and press 'SUBMIT'.

You are done. It will automatically attach to any new and old posts that you have.

Yes, thank you all for helping me. I am not computer savvy. I finally figured out how to upload my avatar, thank you and I also figured out how to post a picture. Now my question is, how do I resize the picture to fit the page. I posted a picture of my 4506-1 in the semi auto pistol forum under the thread 4506 and added my avatar and posed a picture of it. The picture is way too large. Is there a way to downsize the picture?

Richard,

Above your picture on Photobucket is a blue line of writing which says "move tag edit share delete. Click on edit, and you'll see a box called "resize". Pick your size and Photobucket will resize your picture for you.

Thank you. Is there a particular size that it should be resized to?

Richard,

I looked at your picture and it looks to be similar in size to many of the pictures posted on the forum. If you want smaller pictures, resize one and "test post" it in the Lounge to see what it looks like.

Pete,

Photobucket is a photo hosting service and is not associated with SWF. There are several of these hosting services available. Photobucket is free for the basic service, but has a limit on the amount of space you can use "free".

Thank you again to all who chimed in for me. As always, everyone here has been downright helpful and not once have I been flamed for asking a dumb question. Thank you all for your patience and guidance. I have the avatar and picture sizing all figured. I even went to photobucket and downsized them all to the same size as the original so I wouldn't have to do this again.
