S&W is now a one-stop shop as far as guns goes.

We need (at least) 2 new forums:

Rifle
Shotguns

Maybe even one for S&W collectible stuff like knives, ashtrays and whatnot?

Erik, you make good point. I'll bounce this off the other admins/mods in private forum and see if this idea has any support (technical or otherwise). Until then, these "topics" can be posted in the Lounge. In fact, I would have to say that one of the crucial pieces of evidence forum management would be looking for to justify a new forum would some quantitative indication that these new forums would be used. If there are a lot of S&W long gun topics up in the Lounge, that would go a long way towards motivating management to establish a new forum. After all, it doesn't do any good to start a new forum if the only thing that end ups in it are crickets and tumbleweed.

ErikP, I enjoy the one-stop shop feel. I don't like when forums split WTB, WTT, and WTS. Inevitably, WTB and WTT don't get any attention. I would like to see a poll with several options on the matter. I might be in the minority.

On the other hand, I sure would like to see a post-lock forum Big Grin

I'll voice my opinion for leaving it the way it is.
Glock Talk is a prime example of a forum that ended up with way too many forums and some aren't even active.
I love the simplicity of this forum and would vote to not complicate it further.
When I've had rifle & shotgun questions I have gotten good responses in The lounge.
If I want more indepth info I head over to either 24 Hour Campfire or Shooters Forum.
This is the forum I turn to for S&W enjoyment without it being diluted with all the other stuff (with the exception of all the crass humor and wonderfully tasteless jokes!) Big Grin.
Just my 2 cents.

What about taking a poll to find out if there are a bunch of members who are interested in the idea and are willing to use them. Just an idea. BTW I vote no to more sub-forums.

I think that there should be a competition forum. ICORE, IDPA and USPSA.

I myself shoot a 625 in USPSA matches.

ICORE, S&W people should definitely support ICORE.

I've been toying with the idea of setting up a mail-shoot over on my Smith-n-Wesson mail-list.

I think supporting ICORE is more than enough.

Only idea I have that is maybe outside the ICORE rules is setting up a tri-gun competition, along the lines of SASS shooting but with a twist:

3-gun revolver shoot:

Snubbie
Service
Magnum

With a little inspired stage design, it is possible to set the stages so that the games-men get screwed over, leaving the field to ordinary, ovewr the counter guns.

I especially appreciated that no checking was to be done with specified NIB factory ammo...., whereas reloaders and obscure ammo manufacturers has to have their ammo checked!

Just my 2 cents. I'll vote for leaving it the way it is too. Most questions for ICORE and other competitions can be answered in the lounge. I haven't seen many topics about long guns or the various competition formats brought up.

Voice my opinion for *adding* long gun forums. Maybe we don't need separate rifle and shotgun forums, but a long gun venue would be nice.

The suggestion to discuss these topics in the lounge doesn't hold much weight with me at all. I pop on the forums every few days or so looking to explore long gun topics. When I am reminded there are no long gun forums I don't think "Oh, these must be discussed in the lounge!" To the contrary, I turn away depressed. A few minutes later I invariably find myself at the other forums I'm familiar with - calguns.net - and am reminded "oh yeah, THESE are the ones with the long guns."

Annoying thing is that at this point, I'm only *really* interested in S&W - the audience is *here*.

I think it's a chicken and egg thing - right now people don't feel invited to discuss long guns, so they don't. As a result, there's no perceived need to add a long gun forum because no one talks about them!

Internet technology is easy and cheap - it is almost a no-cost proposition to add a single long gun forum just to see how it turns out. I'd wager that after a month, it would have *at least* more topics than the Wish List.

If it really and truly gets no traction at all, delete it! Simple.

I don't see what the problem could be, here!

Just my $.02 Wink

But... it *is* broken. Every other gun forum I visit - be it for a specific manufacturer, for a state, for a cause, for enthusiasts in general, etc - has a clear-cut forum for long guns (when applicable).

S&W makes new Revolvers, made revolvers before 1945, and makes pistols. There are forums for those.

They also make long guns.

I simply don't understand the reason for not giving long gun fans a specific place to discuss their interest. Relegating long guns to "The Lounge", where people discuss politics, movies, and tell tasteless jokes is an insult.

IMHO.

Let me phrase it another way, as well. When I want to talk about S&W revolvers, I immediately think of coming here. When I want to discuss S&W long guns, I first think of 3 other sites before considering coming here.

Why is that?
