I was shopping @ Wal-mart in Minocqua, Wisconsin, store #2510, this morning and spoke to the sporting goods/ammo department mgr.

Wal-mart's home office dictated an inventory reduction sale in his department as well as other departments in his store.

Ammo, mostly shotgun shells had super deals.

I purchased 4 boxes each of following:

Winchester Xpert Hi-Velocity 12 ga, 3", 1 1/8 ounce, BB shot & "4" shot...25 count box, regular price $12.96...sale @ $7.00...fresh inventory from late fall. "Federal" ammo on sale too...approx 20 shotgun items in all. They had 22 & 38 ammo on sale also but did not check the prices.

Wal-mart does these "knee jerk" inventory reductions when their store sales start to decline. Don't know if they are doing same thing in your local Wally World but probably worth a look on your next visit...should have purchased more!!

You are a true gent to spread the word; I'll have to check and see if my store here locally is participating. Smiler

I just talked to my Wal-Mart. The very nice guy told me, "Uhhh, no. Actually, everything went up!"

Oh well! Smiler

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned, each Wal-mart store has their own "open-to-buy" budget to maintain. My local Wisconsin economy is driven by summer and winter tourists. Snowmobiling, snow skiing and ice fishing has been soft so far this winter with most visitors/vaction homeowners reducing the number of their weekend, 300 mile trips to the Northwoods by 50%!

Keep your eyes open as these inventory reductions can come at anytime.

No, thank YOU! Smiler It was worth a try; I sure would have been sad if I'd missed out on something down here.

I checked 2 of the 3 local Wal-Mart stores in my area today and they heard nothing about a current or upcoming sale. I guess it's not a store-wide sale, just a local thing... Thanks for sharing the info, that's what makes this forum great.

Back around Xmas , WalMart had Remington field loads on sale for like $3.77 a box. They had tons of 12ga and 20ga.

They had 4 cases of 16ga.

I bought 'em all.

That Minocqua Wal-Mart had cheap Blazer Brass 45 ACP this past summer. After I took the family to Jim Peck's I bought a few boxes. Wish I was up there now.

Just a year ago, you could get UMC 9mm for 4.98/box when you bought a case at Dick's. Last week it was 9.98/box case price! I think members are happy to hear about any and all sales.

Should I be thinking of ammo as an investment? Wink

If they did this to the handgun ammo, I would load a shopping cart up.

Even if you don't reload start saving your brass. I saved my .357 brass for years before I started reloading and now I probably have a lifetime supply.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

About a week ago I went to the local Wal Mart and I bought some winchester 40 S&W in the 100 rd value box for 21.88 and then I come back and they are 26.88. I would have bought more but they did not have anymore.
