Anyone have experience shooting Monarch ammo, which I believe is Russian made?
They also have two kinds, Blue Box and Green Box at Academy, with Blue being significantly less expensive. Thanks, Munster |

I have shot some .45ACP in the green box (from Academy Sports) through my G30 and Sig P220R Carry. Nothing notable, by that I mean no problems/issues. Seemed accurate enough and was reliable. Guess that is a good review. I would purchase it again.
The counter jockey told me where it was made but I can't recall. I though Bosnia or somewhere, maybe it was Russian. |

I believe it is Russian. The cheaper stuff is steel cased, more expensive is brass cased I think.
I have never seen it anyplace other than Academy. It may be made for that chain. "all posts now ISO9001 certified" |

Thanks,
I wondered what the difference was. The blue box says made in Russia. $4.50 a box. The green is $7 something. Munster |

I've seen some boxes of Monarch at my local Academy store with "Made in Serbia" on the green box.

bigt5150 is correct in that some Monarch is Serbian. I have a couple brown/tan boxes of Monarch .243 that are marked "made in Serbia".

Serbia - that is what I meant. Serbia, Bosnia - all the same to me. |

Thanks for the info guys.
I had them tear a box of .223 open today. Ya'll are right, the blue box at $4.47 is steel cased from Russia, the green box at $7.47 is brass cased, and now I know made in Serbia. I bought a box of green to try. Thanks again, Munster |

Monark is a trademark owned by FEDERAL.
I have bricks of .22 from the 1950's...it was a target load....photo of mom's Colt.. If this is "Monarch"....a real 1-up deal. terry NRA certified instructor/Life Member IWLA life member SASS, USPSA S&WCA #1963 |

I cannot speak for the blue box, but I would stay away from the green box- especially for pistol loads. I have heard that some people have had decent experiences with Monarch's rifle ammunition but after what I experienced with the pistol bullets the cheaper cost is not worth it for me. My dad and I went to the range last weekend when I was in town and we stopped by Academy to pick up some .40 caliber rounds and we bought the Monarch green box because it was cheap. When we got to the range 4 out of my first 12 shots got jammed when they were supposed to be ejected. It got a little more serious when one of my dad's shots misfired and then the slide was stuck so we had to take it to the gunsmith and when he finally got the slide to release he found that the bullet had literally come apart in the chamber. We talked to the people at the range and they told us that last week they had 3 people whose guns had been ruined because the bullet had blown up inside the gun. If you disagree with my opinion of this ammunition, I hope you never experience anything wrong, but for me, what you save in the cost difference is not worth having to buy a new gun or pay hospital bills. Be wary.

likewise I had many jams and failure to lock the slide back when shooting through a box of Monarch 9mm (brass). Not worth it.
