I have so far been happy with the Winchester White Box 165 grain ammo that is now $27 or so at WalMart and a buck or two more at Bass Pro Shops. I've been told some guns are more prone to issues with reloads. I was curious if any other 99 or 990 model owners have any advice on using or avoiding reloads and what ammo you prefer to use for target practice.

Having reloaded for over 3 decades, I would change your statement to: "...tend to have problems with reloads that do not meet SAAMI specs...."
You can't just slap some components together and assume they are within spec without doing serious quality control. I shot over 15,000 reloads last year in practice and competition with no ammunition issues. |

Thanks for the advice. I'll look for the SAAMI note when I look at reloads for sale.

I like the Fiocchi 170 grn truncated cone. Stuff is hot. Check out the ballistics on the Fiocchi website. Sportsman's Guide has it pretty cheap, about $14 a box - if my memory is working. Second choice is bulk packed Speer Gold Dot HP in either 165 grn or 180 grn. Both Ammoman and SPG have this stuff pretty often. Comes in 250 rnd boxes. Seems like I gave about $80 per box last time I bought. The way ammo prices are going, these are likely to be higher today. All of these are flawless in my 40's including my 99.
