I've been lusting about getting a m357 in 41 Mag....
yet I've come to prefer the V8 configuration of the 627...so that complicates the decision further... Does anyone have a link to a ballistics table that shows 41 mag/10mm/40 S&W out to about 100 yards? ************ "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."-Margaret Thatcher |

Check ammo maker's websites. They often list velocities at different ranges for their ammo. Keep in mind that some ammo makers like to inflate their velocities a little and that different guns and barrel lengths will yield different velocities. That should give you a ballpark idea. If you're interested in the .41 you need to reload, unless you're rich or rarely shoot. Reloading manuals will reveal what each cartridge is capable of. Load data is available from powder and bullet maker's websites also. I think Guns & Ammo's annual used to have tables in the back as well.

The Model 357 is discontinued, and Id on't think that many were made.
The .41 and 10mm, in general, only equal one another if one compares a lower power .41 mag load to a hot 10mm. The .41 is offered in factory form with heavier bullets. Cost starts around a dollar a round for defensive loads. |

I'm thinking those .357 numbers are from different barrel lengths?

I just checked DT's website and that's from a 4"! Wow! I find it hard to imagine that the 148 gr. Fiocci stats are from a 4" though. Thanks for posting that, Bill. That's interesting.

FEderal has tables on their ammo
that shows bullet drop for handgun ammo sighted in from 0 yards, as well as sighted in at 25 yards. You might note the velocity loss for the lighter .357 Mag vs the .41 with it's heavier bullets. interesting tables, thanks BillCa....
I generally don't care for the .357 in higher velocity loads... ************ "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money."-Margaret Thatcher |
