It's hard to go wrong with Gold dots in any caliber. I use them in two of my pistols.
Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

Speer makes a short barrel load in 9mm if I recall. I'd guess that the 940 certainly qualifies as a short barrel, so it might be worth investigating. Contacting SW customer service will turn up an official answer regarding +P. I'd think it would be fine though.

What Gator said. Also, I don't have any 9mm pistols, but if I did I would put Speer's 124 gr. +P on my short list along wit Winchester's 127 gr. +P+. I keep hearing a lot of good things about each of those rounds. 115 gr. might be a good choice if it's more accurate, or controllable, or something. If might penetrate better at lower velocities too. I just don't know. We're on a mental cul-de-sac I've never been down. If I were not going to test penetration, or couldn't find results, I would tend toward at least mid-weight bullets.
