With Cor-Bon offerings (JHP, DPX or Powerball). I don't shoot for the arms. Even if one round hits an arm, I doubt the 5-8 follow-up shots will.

I load only ball ammo in my semi autos. With the 45 I figure a hollow point is not going the help matters all that much anyway. Actually, come to think about it I feel the same way about hollow points in my 9x18 and 32 ACP, but for exactly the opposite reason.

I'm with Gatorfarmer on this one. I'm only loading FMJ in my pistols and magazines now as a cost savings. My carry/defense guns are not that old, and I have run several hundred rounds of FMJ through both of them. JHP is costly right now, and my range is about an hour away from me. I just can't afford 200 rounds of JHP ammo for each gun and the trips to the range at this time.

My two cents to the OP's original question - I carry 230 grain Golder Sabers in my .45 and 165 grain Gold Dots in my .40 because that's what the taxpayers buy for me and that's what my regulations say to carry. This greatly simplifies things.
If you enjoy picking different ammo for different seasons, by all means have at it. I figure it doesn't really matter. For every scenario you can use to justify staggering different loads in your mags or changing loads with the seasons, there are an equal number of scenarios where your choice makes it worse. My teeny little brain is still trying to figure out my BlackBerry. Deciding in advance what my future attackers may be wearing or standing behind is just beyond me. ............................. You might beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride. |
