Anybody ever seen these or used 'em. These make .40's look like .45's. Any thoughts?

Who makes that load? I don't see a point to bullets that heavy in that caliber, but I tend to like mid-weight bullets that are slightly on the lighter side. The muzzle energy is impressive on those though.
Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican. |

these will definitely be a little rough on most weapons if loaded to a reasonable velocity. i would be inclined toward something a little lighter pushed faster, or buying a new gun every couple of years.

I like Double Taps 44 Special ammo. Ishould try this 40 S&W in my Hi Powers.

I only carry double tap loads in my .40 and .45, I would suggest getting their 165gr gold dots in .40, I have found that they offer the best combination of speed and weight. In .45 I like the 200gr gold dots.
Ofcourse that is for carrying when the 2 legged variety of critters is the focus, if for some reason you were wanting to woods carry and didn't have a .44, then I would look at their 200gr FMJ round for penetration. The 200gr controlled expansion round IMO should only be in a 10mm used for hunting, it has too much penetration for SD against people and not enough for the woods. |

I would be just a tad wary of 200gr in a 40 S&W, particularly that hot.
DT has a good rep, but that seems to be pushing the edges of the envelope a bit |

Seems to me 200 grainers were about how the .40 S&W started out but few liked it and the lesser weights took over.

I can't say as I remember ever seeing 200gr 40S&W factory loads when that round first hit the scene...or since then for that matter, with the exception of DoubleTap
I think DT makes some good products, but it is my belief that their 200gr load is a flirtation with disaster...especially where Glocks are concerned. IMO, just fwiw, a 200gr 40S&W is pretty well peaked out in the 800-900fps range. That's an awfully short case. And it's a high pressured round to start with. Put it this way. Say hypothetically that DT never existed. Let's also say that one of your shooting buddies came up with a way to push a 200gr bullet out of a 40 S&W case at 1000+fps... If you were an experienced handloader, you would most likely ( and rightfully so ) dismiss them as being crazy and keep your distance from them at the range. It just isn't a good idea to use that bullet weight in a 40 S&W |

The loads aren't labeled as "+P" or in any way being of higher pressure than allowed by SAAMI. There's also no admonition not to use them in Glocks (ala RBCD's offerings). In fact, the claimed test gun velocities are from a Glock.
I should buy some to try in my G27 as I imagine that they'll kick like hell and I'd be curious to try them. |
