So I really do like some of the loads BB is putting out, even though I haven't fired any yet. How do I know they're good? I'm a fan of the FBI load for starters, that's the LSWCHP-GC +P and Tim Sundles who is the owner over at BB puts a darn good load behind that bullet. Oh, and we don't have to worry about the leading we used to get, the GC stands for "Gas Checked". If you want to read up on this go to; http://www.buffalobore.com/
Self protection from a 2-inch .38 Special doesn't get much better than that unless you like the Speer Gold Dot bullet and Tim loads them too. The powders are designed for the short-barrels and they are flash suppressed too so you're not blinded at night by that first shot. Now we have the new .380 ACP rounds and there is a choice of three loads and I'm going to opt for the FMJ-FN +P at 95 gr. I'll get around 1200 fps with that from the PPKs. Another excellent self-protection round and we're assured the truncated bullets will cycle reliably. I'll try a couple of packets. Sure, these things cost a little more than some but they're carry loads, self defence ammunition. I'll use cheap ammo of the same weight for range practise. Now Tim has brought out a .32 auto load and it sounds great for those of you who have a .32 acp. Go on over there and read up on it. I was talking with Tim v email yesterday and last night and he gave me his future line-up, his new products-to-come list and he told me it was fine to go ahead and post it. This is not yet on his website. So we will be looking for... * Heavy 30-30 * .445 Super Mag * .45 Auto Rim * Some 800 gr 12 shotgun slugs. As some of you know my lady friend owns a .25 Beretta and I've been looking all over for a FMJ round that moves a tad faster then most of the current offerings that dribble out of the muzzle at maybe 760 fps. I'd like to see something in a FMJ-FN +P that weighs as much as the ballistics will allow and that will travel something over 1000 fps. When I first mentioned this to Tim I got a "No". But last night I saw that the No was turning into a "maybe". "Maybe, when I get caught up with the stuff I have planned." Heck, I'm happy to wait and see. How many of you guys out there own a half-way decent .25 auto, and how many of you have moms and sisters and wives and daughters who own one? Let's know in here so we can see what a market there might be for a new more powerful load. Remember, for every one of us in this forum there may be better than 1000 others out there. Good luck, Tim, and keep up the great work! |

Love their stuff for the same reasons you mentioned. Putting a gooey soft 158 SWCHP ahead of a gas check, with a well formulated charge at 1000 FPS out of a 2 inch barrel was just too irresistible for me to ignore, so I run it. Their 255 grain .44 Special is a winner also, IMHO? Glad to hear he's hard at it. BTW, his standard pressure .38 Special, 150 grain hard cast full wad cutter, is what's riding around in my Wife's 342PD.

Yes that really soft lead bullet sure attracted my attention too. I'll be spending a lot of time trying this stuff out. I've never had a .44 but I do have a .45 ACP that I'll probably carry with one of their loads. It's more a house-gun right now but I do carry it from time to time.

Preaching to the choir here. I use the BB 158gr lswchp-gc 38+p most of the time in my 340pd. I have some of the speer 135gr gold dots in ".357mag" and they shoot well too. I just can't get back on target fast enough for my liking when I use the full house Remington 125gr sjhp.
However, a 158gr slug at 1000fps in a cartridge that extracts easier than the .357 case for quicker reloads is hard for me to resist. My father also loves the BB 38special +p for his ccw piece (security six). For my full size .357's I'll still stick with the 158gr sjhp from Remington or Federal as a sd round. BTW: as soon as I get a chance to run it over a chrono, I've worked up some .357 rounds with the 158gr sjhp to emulate the same poa/poi of the 38special buffalo bore. Once I settle on a load, I'll post it over in the reloading section. It will be nice to practice with a round that is MUCH cheaper than the real deal. Respect wildlife, use a good marinade. |

I agree, a 158gr slug at 1000 fps works for me too. I like the full weight slugs every time. And that load you're working up sounds good too. I don't reload but there will be many here who will be interested. |

Do you get any keyholing in your 340 PD? I was under the impression the Scandium barrels didn't like them. My Model 49 and 442 are loaded with the BB Standard Pressure 158's. My 640 (38) is loaded with the BB Standard Pressure 158's as the first 2, followed with BB 158 +P's as the last 3. coach22 |

I've had no keyholing with the BB, nor with the practice loads. Respect wildlife, use a good marinade. |

Coach,
I'm not saying you won't? But I (as yet) have not? That said. I asked the question awhile back whether at some point in the Ti,Sc saga if the rate of twist of the rifling had been changed? Or if it had in the .357 chambering' only? No one ever responded so I have to assume that it may be a peculiarity to some of them that doesn't even appear on the company's radar screen? |

I just got some standard pressure .38 SWCHP's for my model 36. Haven't fired any of them, but they definitely look promising. Those are BIG hollowpoints. About as big as you can get with this caliber. I like the idea of the gas check.

Hi Stophel. I hope you come back in here with your findings like, perceived recoil, POA v POI etc. Sounds like you have a lot of fun coming. |

Stophel,
The standard pressure 158 LSWCHP G/C are what I sent my Uncle for his in house 5 screw K-38. My guess is they'll do fine out of yours? The gun was regulated off of a 158 grain bullet weight, after all? |

That's the theory...
Still haven't gotten around to shooting any yet. My sister has my 36, and I don't have another snub (though I hope to remedy that weekend after next...). I may shoot a few through my 38 Masterpiece soon, along with some +p 158gr SWCHP's from Remington, which I have decided will be my load of choice for my K frame 38's. (I'd like to get some Buffalo Bore +p's also). *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Yes, a revolver IS a pistol!!! --------------------- Ten percent of the people think, ten percent think they think, and the remaining eighty percent would rather die than think |

Count me as an advocate of Buffalo Bore
I run the standard velocity Buffalo Bore 158 grain LSWC-HC out of my 38-2. Great load.. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jerry in SC, |

I'll be running the BB LSWCHP-GC .38 Special +P 158gr loads in both my Model 66-3 and the new J-Frame when I get it. The idea of having the same load for both guns has a lot of appeal for me. And I'm beginning to think I'll go with the regular weight J-frame rather than the lite-weight ones. The heavier one will handle the +P better I guess.
Damn, that 158 gr sucker is gonna be motoring when it leaves the 4-inch barrel! |

I've heard nothing but good things about BB. Will have to try out some of their loads.
