I ran into a load of ald Peters Ammo, And the cost was 5 a box on anything other than .22, The .22 was 2 a box, Some boxes were beyond repair, I kept all the good boxes full and neatly tucked away, I DID get to shoot the POLICE MATCH out of my 25-2,, I was standing with two hand hold getting 1 1/2" groups at 45-50 feet, The 25-2 shoots that 45 acp like a laser, I havent any moore to shoot, All the good boxes are full,
Can anyone tell me how to hand load as close as possible the standard load of the 45 acp loads pictured here!
Thanks for any info!
Peter.

I think I'm gonna need a bigger safe.

Pred, I'll bite since no one else has. I'm not a world champion handloader, but I'm learning. I would shoot a half dozen rounds of that peters load over a chrono and average the velocity. Maybe you can find some more somewhere so you don't have to shoot your hoard up. I would then take a bullet of the same weight and find a load in a reloading manual that the average velocity of the Peters load falls within approximately the middle of it's range. For example if the Peters load averages 800 fps. Then look for a load that starts at 700, 725, or something like that, and the max is 900 or so. Test the load in your gun (building up in 5 increments while watching for excessive pressure of course) then find that sweet accurate spot by fine tuning the load. Hopefully the recoil impulse will be similar.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

Hey pred,

I recall reading somewhere that R-P frequently used Hercules (now Alliant) gunpowder in their own proprietary loads - back in that era.

I bet that this combination will come close to duplicating that .45acp Police target load:

185gr. JSWC + 4.5gr. Alliant Bullseye; ~825-850fps

I would set that project aside if you don't have the money for a chrono, or see if a friend has one. You really should chrono the Peters ammo in your gun, then chrono the handload in your gun also. Good luck! That sounds like a fun project.
