I'm the proud new owner of a Smith m25 .45 colt, and I would like to spend some time shooting this thing w/o going broke doing it. I'm going to get set up to reload it eventually, but for now, I'm stuck in the buying ammo and collecting brass stage. Anyone have a line on high quality reloaded ammo that won't break the bank? I understand this m25 shouldn't be fed a steady diet of full bore ammo, so cowboy like loads would be fine. I'll get setup to reload hunting ammo at a later date. Thanks for any information.

I have never used any of Cabelas ammo as I load my own, but this is a bit over $.50 each.

Several of the catalog companies sell bulk loaded 45 Colt. I've not used any of them, so I can't recommend.

I use Mastercast reloads. I send them my brass. I just got 7 boxes of 50 rounds. By the time I paid shipping on my brass and shipping on the ammo, the cost was around $12 per box.

I think they are a bit dirty, but they are cheap and fun to shoot.

Google Mastercast Ammo.

Check Natches and Ammoman for specials. You might also try Black Hills and Midwayarms. Ultramax brand offers cowboy loads as do several other whole
sale and retail suppliers.

Because of the quantity of materials in the components for this caliber, the rounds are usually a little higher than some of the smaller ones.

Big bang, much smash'em.

R.A.R. offers some .45 Colt loads for HD/SD
including:

185 gr. Rem Golden Saber/JHP
@ 1,150 FPS 50 rds/$33
250 gr. Hornady XTP JHP
@ 850 FPS - 50 rds/$34.00
The other R.A.R. .45 Colt offerings are
ONLY for Ruger Blackhawk & T?C Contenders

FWIW - i have a 625 5" Bbl. .45 ACP / .45 Auto Rim I've shot the similiar load R.A>R. offers in .45 Auto Rim, 186 gr. Golden Saber
@ 1,100 FPS - recoil is a bit less than
Speer Gold Dot 230 gr. .45 ACP as a ref.
point. Accurate.

Why not order some CCI Blazer aluminum case
.45 Colt ammo for range work?

When I bought my two New Vaqueros in .45 Colt, I bought a case of Black Hills cowboy loads.
As a reloader, I used those once fired brase to load up some nice rounds 250 gr. JSP for my 625-7 Mountain Gun.
best way to aquire the brass IMO.
