Anyone know a source for identifying the letters on the bottom of old brass? Curious what F C 44 REM MAG means on my old 44 magnum brass. Will I learn date of manufacture? Are these original run? Thanks in advance.

The FC most likely represents Federal Cartridge. I don't know how you will go about dating it.

So far as I know, haven't bought any Federal factory in about 5 years, but they were still using the FC headstamp that recently. Pretty certain they still do. So far as what it means, its F(ederal) C(artridge). Are they "original"? Depends on what you mean by original, but can guarantee they are genuine Federal made sometime between 1956 and quite current.
What about them makes you think they are "old"? And, for that matter, how do you define old? |
