Is this a good ammo in .38 special? There is a shop that has the 110 variety in plus p and non p. Its around 17 bucks a box. Deal or not deal?

Personally, I think you can do much better in .38 Spec. than this load, but some like it. If the ammo is in 50 round boxes, $17.00 is a great price. If it's 20s, not so good...

Although not "the best" currently available, for as long as it has been around and for being what some would call "low tech," Silvertip ammo is still an adequate and viable defensive round.

110 is rather light for .38 special rounds. I'd buy those FBI loads in preference personally, unless you're using an Airlite or are particularly recoil sensitive of course.

I agree. If you can find Winchester 145gr Silvertips in .38 Special for the same price jump on them. Before all the "new and improved" high tech .38 Special ammo came out Winchester Silvertip and Remington Golden Saber ammo was the "go-to" ammo for most who carried Jacketed bullets in their .38 instead of Lead rounds. (FBI load) Winchester Silvertip ammo is time tested and reliable IMO.

I've gotta agree with Gator and ArchAngel. I would use 135 gr. Gold Dots or heavier in .38 special. Those 158 grainers sound like the ticket. Silvertips enjoy a reputation for good performance in a number of calibers.

My local store has 110gr. and 125gr.+P SilverTips. The 110s are brass cased but the 125s are nickel. Those nickel cases with the SilverTip bullet "look" like something you'd use on a Vampire. Just wanted to share that useless thought....Smiler

They would go good with a tuxedo I would think.
