I was surprised to read the 140XTP is only penetrating three water bottles, I had a practice .38Super/125gr Gold Dot (chrono 1350ish) penetrate four bottles and expanded to 0.747".

A 6.0gr of Power Pistol launched the 140gr XTP from a 1911 Colt at 1192fps/ES52fps/WSP/R-P +P brass. I am in the process of working up the 140XPT with 800X and AA #7 powders.

With 8.3grs AA #7 the Sierra 140gr JHP gave 1180fps/ES 32fps/CCI 500/Win nickel x2. The 8.6gr loading hasn't been chronoed yet in either the Colt or Para 1911 .38Super. Sierras seem to always be very accurate. Both of these 140s should break into low 1200fps territory for those interested in loading the accurate, low recoiling .38Super.

For comparison to the factory 140XTP, I found this Remington 140gr SJHP out penetrated and expanded better than my best 10mm/180gr/Golden Saber 1380fps loading.

The above was a build up starting load, chrono low 1500s

Here's the test, 1/10" hard steel followed by 5 bottles filled with water, I expected the Tide jug would really slow down the SJHP.

Big surprise, the Tide bottle opened up like a book and the SJHP penetrated four more bottles and wasn't recovered, nor were any frags recovered.

Left a good sized hole in the steel barrier;

In other testing where the SJHP was recovered, expansion was: 0.6985", 0.7205", .7785" and .8125". This 0.7205" SJHP expanded to a nice flat shape;

I was very happy and please with the performance of the 140gr SJHP, I expect it can be pushed to the 1600s with the 6" barrel, but I wonder if the extra velocity will perform any better than observed in the barrier/water bottle test.

Really? 1,600 fps for a 140 gr. .357 Magnum from a 6" barrel? Doesn't sound possible to me within reasonable pressure limits.
