Anyone using CCI's Velocitor Golddot hollowpoints in their handguns and rifles,I've been carrying them and shooting them in Walther P-22 and my K-22 for smallgame hunting and occasional crowshooting with a Ruger 10-22 and have had spectacular results far as accuracy and wound channels,I'd consider 11 rounds out of the Walther P-22 pretty lethal in a defensive role if needed, what are your alls thoughts on the round?

It's probably my favorite .22 round for such purposes - though I still don't think much of it. I've chrono'd it and it consistently does pretty well from handguns. It has a full 40-grain projectile. I have no idea how the projectile holds together. I'm not that hopeful about its penetrative abilities being far greater than other .22s' but it's at least moving decently fast.

Shot-placement is king. Adequate penetration is queen. Everything else is angels dancing on the heads of pins.

This bullet isn't 'designed' to stay together and that's one of the reasons it works so well on small critters etc. It doesn't penetrate very deeply on the old fashioned "wooden block" test I've been using for many years. But, it does do a lot more damage to the Block than any other round I have used which is good. Personal Defense - not my first choice but better than nothing and I wouldn't carry any ,22RL as my only gun when considering going in Harm's Way.

I would only consider the P-22 with the Golddots as a B.U.G.,but it would be easy to put 11 rounds to the head out to about 20 yards if needed and very controllable and extremely fast followup shots,I normally carry the Walther with a wheelgun or auto of .45 caliber while hunting to put campmeat in the pot.

the velocitors have well in everything I have shot them in. in my Ruger 10/22 target they shoot only slightly worse than Federal automatch as in 1/2 inch at 50 yards. In a Ruger Government Target pistol they will do the 1/2 at 25 yards with no problems. it is also the load of choice in my Manurhin PPK/S in 22 long rifle.

The last ones I shot were VERY inconsitent from shot to shot. When I shot Perma-Gel with my 2" NAA Black Widow CCI Stingers were much better penetrators. Velocitors leave me unimpressed.

Don't carry a gun because of what may happen today. Carry because once, just once, and at the least likely time imaginable, you may run into the worst monster you ever could imagine. Be their worst nightmare and resist them with all the stubbornness that our pioneer ancestors posessed. To do less is to be unamerican.

I stoke the kids 10/22 with Velocitors and take them out shooting jack rabbits.

Compared to Hyper Velocity 32 grain rounds, they are considerably more effective.

This round folds a Jack up pretty good when the kids do their part and place the bullet where it needs to go.

The thud of the round hitting flesh is quite noticeable compared to other rounds we have used.

The kids have killed a boxcar full of Jacks with this round and to date I haven't recovered a bullet (complete pass thrus). I have never had a Velocitor fail to fully pentetrate a Jack Rabbit.

These exit wounds are about the size of a dime.

Yeah, good looking kids. Your boy reminds me of mine when he was younger. It looks like they got a better lot of Velocitors than I did. Smiler

I also use them a lot because I like the 40gr bullet better than the 32gr bullet that's used in CCI Stinger ammo.

Cute kids indeed (they get there looks from their mom) and boy do they love to pull the trigger.

A man can go broke trying to keep these guys in CCI ammo Big Grin.

Velocitors have worked well for us but I have to still stress shot placement to these guys.

A poorly placed shot will knock one over but anything short of a shot thru both shoulders will result in a Jack righting himself and running off or more very expensive ammo being used to put them down.

Those jack rabbits look huge compared to the rabbits we have around here. Do you eat them? How do the taste? Like the bipod setup on your rifle. What is your hunting tactic for taking the jacks? Thanks.

The area where we hunt is farm country and targets are plentiful.

The tactic is simple, stalk the fields using as much cover as is available and set up the shot.

Most shots are inside of 75 yards.

They are easy to get close too if you move slow and again use the cover available to block your movement from their view.

As far as eating them, the rule on Jacks is that you shouldn't as they carry Tularemia (Rabbit Fever).

In fact my ex wife would shit down both legs if she knew I was letting these guys handle the dead ones Roll Eyes.

These rabbits are large and to all outward appearances appear to have a lot of useable meat but that isn't the case.

The Jack Rabbits skeletal strucure is like fiber glass and its muscularity is like extremely tough rubber bands.

It's built for speed and there isn't any useable meat from the bottom of the ribcage to the top of the head.

The hips are very muscular and have a lot of meat but it's tough as an old shoe and you will wear your jaws out trying to chew it.

These rabbits are not soft and juicy like cottontails.

If I had to eat a Jack Rabbit, I would; but I don't believe you could get me to do it on regular basis.

We shoot them and leave them wear they lie. Coyotes come along and clean them up.

As wasteful as this may seem the farmers love it.

Farmers/Ranch Hands I have spoken too offer a figure that brings it in to perspective but I can't recall it.

It's usually stated as "X number of Jack Rabbits will eat as much as a full grown cow".

The number of jacks compared to the cow is very small.

I have probably killed 10,000 Jacks in the last 10 years for every one I shot there were ten I didn't even see.

There are plenty of them out there and there's no chance of us running out.

I really like the Velocitor for pests and anything rabbit size or smaller.

That being said, I had a big (I mean BIG) coon raiding my duck pen last year. I shot him twice with the velocitor in center of body, then once in the back when he was running away (Ruger 10-22 range 15 to 20 yards).

I saw him flinch with each shot, but he kept going.

I found his carcas the next day, he had gone about 150 yards. All 3 were good hits, but all three bullets came apart within 4 inches of penetration.

None of the bullets exited.

I like them very, very much for what they are intended for, however, I strongly believe that if you bet your life on them, you will lose.

Remember, if you don't reach the vital zone, you don't make an effective hit.

Cayoot, most folks don't realize how big a racoon get.

A ran with a family of trappers when I was a kid and some of the coons they trapped were huge. A stretched skin on some of the bigger ones would be as large as a kitchen table.

I respect your evaluation of th velocitors performance on that big assed coon.

The larger of the species ain't no joke and a quick expanding 22lr is going to fall well short of what you need (unless it reaches the brain pan).
