Hi folks

I am living in Switzerland, and due to government regulations, hollow points are banned. Leaves me with 9mm overpenetration, which is not a nice thing to have in urban environment. Any ideas what FMJ-Load I can use to get less penetration?

Seamaster: Federal makes a 9mm Expanding Full Metal Jacket round that might work for you. Check out http://www.federalpremium.com/ballistics/default.aspx and search for pistol ammo, 9mm, with bullet type EFMJ. It appears to provide excellent expansion and penetration, while avoiding overpenetration:

Here's another link that gives more info on the design of the EFMJ bullet:
The Expanding FMJ

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot, DC7, I will check that out! I've also heard about a LAPUA CEPP (Controlled Expansion Police Projectile). Could be in the same category as your mentioned load.

Cheers

Corbon Powerball might be the fix you're after.

Another option would be to use a revolver and try That Hornady Leverlution stuff someone just brought up in another thread, or wadcutters.

I thought the Swiss had their crap together more than to pass an idiotic law like this. I only thought the aces in New Jersey's government were this stupid.

Welcome to the forum. Big Grin

Look, Flop-Shank - I was long proud of the fact, that my homecountry "lil' ol' Switzerland" didn't blew in the same whistle as the rest of europe, weapon-wise. But it seems that the good times are over - at least for the law-abiding citizens (as a 20years+ LEO I am one of those, I think). In the real world, on patrol and later with CID, I really seldom encountered problems with legal weapon-carrying citizens. They rather sometimes use their own guns to commit suicide, not homicide. The bad guys with illegal guns and no carry licence - you guess... And you can also guess who is still carrying guns now, and hollow points... thanks to the unbelievable wisdom of the great thinkers of the powers to be. Sorry for my bad English - take care.

Seamaster:

Thanks for your input!

What is the current situation on concealed carry for private Swiss citizens, and for visitors from other countries?

best,
Mas

Seamaster,
If those Federal rounds fall under the ban (and I have a feeling they do) I think I've found an answer to your problem. Sellier & Ballot makes a 140gr (9,1g) 9mm Luger FMJ round that's Subsonic You can see from the Spec Sheet from a 6" (150 mm) barrel it's rated at only 1,001 fps (305 m/s) and with the 140gr (9,1g) bullet it still produces 309 ft/lbs (419 J) of energy. A bullet that heavy going at that velocity will probably do a lot of damage and not over penetrate.

Fiocchi has a similar round available, Stock # 9APD, but I think the S&B round might be a better choice.

I hope this helps!

Rereading this thread, I'm thinking a .38 or even .44 special with wadcutters would work well too, if you're willing to switch calibers. If you want to carry something halfway decent you should be able to, despite the best efforts of your idiot lawmakers to get you killed.
