Over my years of shooting, I find that I've accumulated a few boxes of odd obscure ammo for guns that I no longer own. 3 Boxes of it are probably corrosive. What is the best way to dispose of it? I'm not shipping it and I don't belong to a gun club.

Pull the bullets, give it away, bury it ect...... If you belong to a local shooting organization perhaps you could offer it as free on a bulletin board.

You might try dropping it off at the local PD for possible practice ammo or for their personal use. However, at our local station, they now want you to fill out tons of paperwork.
Now, I just leave it at the public firing range for others to use...

I store mine in 50 caliber metal ammo boxes. You never know when you might come across something that shoots 450 boxer or 44-40 or 455 MK "something or other." It's also good for trading stock when you run into someone who needs that caliber. I made a great trade for most of my 45 Schofield stuff a few years back.

Do you live near a river, lake, ocean? In the Navy we used to call it "Deep Six," but these days that's likely not allowed for environmental reasons.

Give local fire dept. a call, or perhaps sheriff's office or police. Police have to dispose of ammo at times, when it's no longer needed as evidence, etc.

Good luck.

Asi no, si andas paseando,

Debes llevarlo de modo
Que al salir, salga cortando.

I had the same problem a few years ago and called the local Police Bomb Disposal Squad (it took more than a few phone calls). I finally got smart and asked for the Lieutenant and explained my problem to him. He was happy to come and get the old ammo so that he and his guys could practice EOD techniques with it.

Win-win I love it.

Regards,

Dave

Normally, I shoot it all myself. Sometimes, people give me antique ammo that I can't use. so then I leave it on the beach at my shooting club. If somebody wants the old stuff, they can have it.

Never had this problem. I do not think I got any ammo more than 12-13 years old. I guess when the ammo hits 20-25 years, then it is time to shoot it off.

Why not offer it to people on this board?
(If they offer to pay shipping, etc.) Big Grin

If you have any

.333 OKH
7.65 Argentine
.43 Spanish
11.75 Montenegrin Revolver
or .320 Rook

Give me a call! Big Grin

Heck, give me a call anyway. Arrangements can be made!

Darn, I sound like a used car salesman! Frowner

Ammo- unless corroded or damaged- usually is just fine! Balloon head cartridges have become the rage- if nothing else to have a few for pics.

I wish we had a beach at my gun club!

Throw it in your fire pit over the 4th - it just pops, won't launch the projectile.

Or give it to the local neighborhood kids to play with, or leave a few rounds on the floor of the bank, quicky mart, and local bars as you run your errands around town.

Leave at the indoor range next time you go - they know how to deal with it, probably know someone who actually wants it. Besides, I don't feel so bad there,- it makes up for all my downrange brass that I lose every time I go.

Yeah, me too. We've got the sand, just no water.
