Wanting to shoot some winter indoor matches in Production class, I picked up some Winchester WIN CLEAN (lead vapor free) ammo in 115 BEB, 124 BEB, and 147 BEB. Doing just a little testing, the 124's and 147's felt "softer" than the 115's and the 124's grouped better than either, with the 115's coming out the worst. The 115's had the most "blast" and seemed the harshest to shoot. I didn't really test split times and run back to back "stages" to be more scientific about it...just went by "feel." As the testing would have to be done at my own backyard range, and it is now snowing and blowing out there~ (just in case, the BEB stands for Brass Enclosed Base which is a "backwards" fmj, to limit the vaporized lead on firing.) Also, fyi, the 5906 ran all three loads without a single malfunction.
You always learn something when you listen to others...even if it is only about them.

Thanks for the info. From what I've read on this forum and others the 124's seem to group best in about everyone's 9mm. I haven't read anything negative about them yet.

Just picked up a "value pack" box of 100 WWB at Walmart. Looks like the price was pretty good. I'm waiting for Dick's to have a sale...buy one box and get another for half price.

Ok, I'm assuming that the +p ammo will not affect the 5906 much. I keep hearing how it causes the gun to wear out much sooner but since I'd only carry it for self defense and not shoot it much, can the 5906 handle it?

I recently purchased a box of Speer GoldDot 124G+P just to keep house gun loaded with. on the front it says, the choice of law enforcement, on the back it says RECLASSIFIED NOT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. My question is , are these safe for a 6906

Any of those old stainless pistols will handle that load just fine. Shooting them a lot will cause more wear than standard loads if you shoot them a lot but for home defense it will be just fine. Just shoot a few do see how accurate they are in your gun. Every gun is different and so is their accuracy with ammo.

Back in 1998 I bought a 5906 and I have fired everything through it with great results. It likes Sellier and Bellot 115 FMJ the best. However, Silver Bear 115 ball and hp, 147 Federal, and 124 Magtech all shoot well without any failures. This gun reminds me of an AK 47, it feeds everything and never quits.
