Greetings, all:

I just got a 1955 K-22, and it does not like the two types of ammo I tried in it today, CCI Mini-Mags and some Peters bulk pack stuff. Neither delivered better than mediocre accuracy, and the Peters tended to stick in the chambers.

What kind of ammo do your K-22s, 17s, and 18s like? I'm primarily interested in accuracy.

I have a 1953 K-22 that really likes the Remington hollow point Golden bullet, and the Winchester 37gr HP. Good luck finding the right load. Once you do, you will be amazed at how accurate the gun can be.

Man, this gets asked a lot! Answer: they're all different - try all the better types of ammo and see which your gun likes. What my K-22 likes won't necessarily be a predictor for yours.

Believe it or not my 1953 K-22 Masterpice really likes this same load. The standard velocity CCI's come in a close second. Greg

Yeah, that's the problem with .22s. They can be so picky about what ammo they like, and each gun can have a different preference.

Not just revolvers, but also automatics and even rifles.

I have an old K-22 that does not like most of the standard velocity "target" .22 ammo I've tried. Some brands even lead the forcing cone quite badly. But it shoots great with the cheap Remington gold hollowpoints, and the CCI match stuff.

I'd suggest getting a wide variety of ammo and try them all. But be sure that the forcing cone and barrel are clean before you try something else.

Guys, thanks for the info. Looks like the next step is to just get one box of everything the shop has. If nothing else, I oughta be well-supplied with .22 ammo for a while.

I have one that likes the Federal bulk stuff that I get at WalMart.

Mine likes Winchester Power Points best. They seem to shoot great in a large number of firearms both short and long.

Well, I went and spent $40 (!) on .22 ammo today--not quite one box of everything, but some of everything the Bullseye shooter who helped me thought worth trying. I got 100 rounds each of:

* Winchester T22 Target (Bullseye guy thinks this will be the one)
* Winchester Power Point HP
* Fiocchi SM 320 Super Match (only 50 rounds--it's spendy)
* CCI Green Tag
* Remington 22 Target

The guy also recommended Wolf match stuff, which the shop was out of and can't get any more. Have to see if I can find it elsewhere. I'll also probably swing by Wal-Mart and fetch some Federal bulk pack, being as several people here said they had good luck with it.

Testing starts as soon as the "honey-do" list permits, either tomorrow or Sunday. I can post the results if anyone's interested.

Winchester Power Points seem to be the most consistantly accurate in a wide variety of firearms in my experience. 617 loves the stuff.

Remington Standard Velocity target stuff has been the best in my various .22's. I also like the Winchester T22's and Remington Sub-Sonic loads.

Remington bulk ammo for me, it even shoots good in my model 41.

Ron H, I think you are finding each .22 has it's own likes & dislikes. Experiment with all available .22s found locally. I like Federal .22s, the ones found in Wally World. Frank

I will ask a couple of questions about it before trying all that nice new ammo...

Did you clean it before you shot it? .22 rimfires are strange about cleaning. Some people think they should be cleaned and often...others think that you should never touch the bore of a rimfire.
I am of the belief- and it is only opinion- that when you clean the bore of a .22, it is like that of a muzzleloader- it has to be "seasoned" again. Usually that means shooting a box of well lubed ammo though it before it is broken back in to the point it was. I have one friend that shoots smallbore silhouette that uses T/C bore butter through the bore once he's done cleaning it-I suppose it can't hurt and he does well at the matches.

This is just another opinion.

But if you did just clean it- it probably won't shoot very well until after 30-40 rounds go through it- get some speedloaders!
