A couple of votes for 77 Sunset Strip and Surfside 6. However Peter Gunn had the most thinking required. Plus the music. He (the character) was a jazz appreciator if I recall correctly.

Lots of memories. These shows cemented my later career choice. Never dreamed that would happen. 77 Sunset Strip led to Surfside Six. I even had a Mattel(?) snubnose which carried metal cartridges which shot a spring loaded plastic bullet.

Yes, it would have been a Mattel snubnose 38. I too had one, with a plastic shoulder holster that I got for Christmas. I remember I wore it one time, trick or treating when my buddy and I wore slacks, coats and ties and went as detectives.
I was six or eight when Peter Gunn was on. I don't remember the show at all, but I remember being afraid of "Peter Gunn" for some reason. Absolutely no idea why that would have been but it's a firm memory. My mother probably told me to behave or Peter Gunn would get me or something like that.

Ahh sweet memories of Peter Gunn, Adventures In Paradise, and Route 66. Gardner Mc'Kay starred in Adventures in Paradise I know. Poor Martin Milner who passed not too far back from Route 66. Watched these shows on a 21 inch B&W Philco.

Mancini's themes were always great, but I believe Hank would have peed himself If he'd heard Dave Grusin's version.

I just stumbled across this rendition of the Peter Gunn theme. These guys look like they are really enjoying themselves.
