Are the grips on some of these .22 semi-autos real Ropers? I find a lot of conflicting information via Google. Some claim Gagne indeed carved grips for High Standards while others state that those some call Ropers were actually factory "Roper-like" copies. I have a set that look almost exactly like those on fat tom's GE Deluxe but fitted for an HD Military (no lever cutout on left side) and I'm curious as to how I should describe them and their value.

I sold this one a while back Mod 107 Hamden made. Nice shooting pistol in 95% at least.
I thought a collector would get better use from this as I'm not into collecting, just shooting.
Now I'm looking for a semi-auto rimfire pistol that I can shoot all speed 22lr thru. Seeing as the stuff is too hard to find around here, for a reasonable price.

Victor - 3 barrels
Here is a picture of mine. Model 107
The bottom 2 barrels and gun are Hamden. They are steel ribbed 4" and 5.5"
The barrel on the gun is E. Hartford.

This is just a common HD Military and an old Lawrence holster. It's finicky which ammo it likes, some brands need more than one hammer strike but with ammo it likes is very accurate and a fun shooter.

In 1970 I was in graduate school in Texas. The duplex I had rented was not in the best neighborhood. After a couple of late night incidents, I decided to get armed. The only thing I could afford was a $35 HS Durango at a Gibsons. Several years later, I got into BE.shooting and bought a HS Supermatic Trophy (106) with the 7 1/2" fluted barrel. Still have both guns.

Guy22: When I was shooting comptitively in the late 1950s, I started with a Hi Standard Supermatic: the kind with two gas escape holes (muzzle brake) on either side of the front sight. I traded it for a S&W Model 41: my scores over the National Match course (maximum 300 points) went up about 5 points from about 280 to 285. For me the Model 41 was a little more ergonomic, I don't think anyone shooting offhand can tell the difference between the guns in absolute accuracy, the kind you'd get from a Ransom rest. It's all about how it fels in your hand.

I herited my HS Olympic ISU .22 short , alloy slide, from my grandpa when he passed thirty years ago. It was quasi- unfired, but I shot (and I shoot) a lot of little ammo on it. Its accuracy at 25 yards is astounding.
Here it wears a vintage set of Herrett's grips I purchased on eBay in USA (I'm Italian and I live there) and I totally refinished.
Of course I have its factory slant grips.

Oh, I forgot to post another High Standard that I have. While not a target gun, I can tell you that within 10 yards or so, a hit is pretty much guaranteed...

I have a Sport King from the 1970s and it's a pretty good shooter.
But, it doesn't shoot as well as my dads JC Higgins Model 80, which was the Dramatic made for Sears. I think his is from 1959. Fun to shoot.

I had these Double Nines for several years and finally gave them to my son. He had carried the nickel one on his horse quite a bit when he was a kid.
This is a Double Nine Natchez model. They are really scarce and collectors are looking for them. I got this one at a garage sale several years ago for $150.00. I saw two at Tulsa this spring, one like new $950.00 and one very well used for $495.00. Not bad for a $39.00 gun. I gave this one to my son also.

Only have one High Standard pistol, which I bought brand new in the early 1970's.
Hamden CT built in 1973, and shipped during January 1974, it's an ordinary Sport King, with a crisper/lighter trigger than My S&W Mdl 41 or 22S Target Mdl.

Better late than never. My bullseye gun (before I started age related shaking). A Victor with a CPC barrel that was milled for scope mounts right on the barrel. A real tack driver with a trigger by Mike Curtis. I could never blame the gun for anything, it was always me.

For those that don't have it, Walter F. Roper published a book thru the Macmillan Co. New York 1945. This is an excellent, but out of print reference book. The content covers the basics thru long range shooting with a handgun, something I like to do.

That is similar to the one that I still have from 1962--- which we won all of our interleague matches with !Took muzzle brake of tho, due to lead buil-up inside it!

I just looked at mine --- no designation like you are stating- mine says Model 103. It is a Supermatic Citation with the factory 8" barrel & all the accessories, including a brand-new, still in the box 10 rd. magazine! Took muzzle brake off due to lead build-up inside after shooting lots of competition with it.

Here mine. One of my grail guns because it is my birth year gun.
Manufactured in 1946, it is a blued model, with adjustable sights and a 4.5” barrel. It shipped 9/25/1946 to Decatur & Hopkins Co., Boston, Massachusetts.

There has been an admonition for decades about only using standard velocity ammunition in High Standards in order to avoid the cracks in the frame that hsguy described. High Standard would routinely replace the frame. I bought a Victor at an auction and I didn't check the frame well enough and it was severely cracked. It took a long time to get the frame replaced. The crack from the back corner of the magazine well can extend into the slide rails, so I make it a point to make both a visual and tactile inspection of any High Standard pistol I look at.
On a more positive note, the pictures of the High Standards that my brother and I have would cover the wall.
