I have a 50's era SK-100, Sport King Lightweight, in my safe.

I traded into this one, a HD military from a friend that also was my captain years ago. It is a "blood gun". Frank was a deputy for I think the county around Ft. collins colorado. This probley was in the 1960s. Someone killed someone at a filling station with it. Frank said they were nearby when they got the call and arrested the shooter almost immediately but couldnt find the gun. Finaly frank got the idea to check the roof of the station and found it. He said after the trial he got the judge to give him the gun! Things sure were different then! After we traded frank regretted it and brought it up a lot at work kiddinly trying to get me to trade back. Then one day I spotted another in the gun shop that looked new. I told frank go buy that one and I will trade you this one back for it. He was too cheap to do it. Later I found a old carved set of ivorys for it. They are beautiful and I think unique. A mountain lion on one side and a flying goose on the other. By the way, the gun I traded him for it would be worth quite a bit now. It was a very old savage 1899 in .303. About in 2002 the gun was stolen from me along with many others. I got it back! A long personnal story I wont go into here, but it was taken off a parol violater. I also got back a shotgun that the guy sawed the barrel and stock off of. The others havent showed up.

Mine is also a blood gun. It's a HD Military four inch that my dad traded a bottle of rum to a marine for. He shot his first Japenese soldier with it.

The good ol double nine. A nine shot, double action, lightweight with western styling. It has a horrible double action trigger but the single action is pretty decent. The main thing it is accurate and cheap shooting. It was the first handgun I ever bought and still have it.

I have no high standards. I hardly have standards at all!

I have a High Standard Victor with a weighted, vented barrel,wood grips and adjustable trigger. Bought it real late 70's/early 80's ??. I was told it was an Olimpic Grade with the longer barrel. It will drill the same hole all day long. Love it. Best shooting 22 handgun I ever owned.

First handgun I ever shot was one of these, but not this exact gun. An HD Military. There are 2 in the family, one with Ropers and the shorter barrel. The pistol in the photo is a lot of fun to shoot, as accurate as any K22.

I had an HS "Field King" back in the late 80's. I loved it, but a friend traded me out of it. I've always regretted that, so when another buddy inherited a Sears version of the Sport King, I tried to worked a deal which fell through. He gave it to me for a birthday present as he was happier with his Ruger MkII. I'm happy now.

A Double Nine was my first handgun I shot also. My dad bought it when he was in the Army. My brothers and I shot the heck out of that pistol growing up.

These are the only two I left left, and are keepers...........

Somewhere I have read not to shoot hi speed ammo in the older HDM`s etc as they werent built for them. I have before I read that with no bad effect.

I picked up this WWII era Model B a couple of years ago. It was a consolation prize for my failure to grab a Colt Woodsman that got too pricy for me in that particular auction. Later I found an even nicer Woodsman at a lower price, but in the interim the Model B grew on me and now has my direct (rather than secondary) respect.



Sometimes I think I'd like to have a Supermatic, but so far yearning and availability have not both been present at the same time.

A Double-Nine was my first revolver, too. I let it get away several years ago. Just another bad decision that trained me to make better decisions in the years since then.

FT, I had about 70 High Standard's in my collection before I broke it up. The G series guns were made after WWII until 1950. They were the first to have the interchangable barrels. The G sereis have the 'lever' take down, the next series have a small button, then the large button.
The G series included the Mod GB, GD, GE & GO. The GE & GO were the top of tbe line gun of this series. The GE is .22 Long Rifle, the GO 'Olympic' is in .22 Short. Your Mod GE is an excellent gun (as are all of the Hamden guns) & Mod GE & GO guns bring a large premium. Both are rarly encountered, especially the GO Olympic. Exc. Condition Mod GE's Will bring in the $1200. range to a serious collector, more if in the orig.box. Congratulations on owning one of the best .22 autos made. If you miss your shot while shooting a High Standard (Hamden or New Haven) it is seldom ever the guns fault. Art

Under-rated? Probably not by anyone who knows anything about bullseye shooting in the fifties and sixties.

Could you give me a "short" history on your first (top) HS in the photo. It's the closest (if not almost exact model), I've seen to matching mine. I lost all my info years ago in what could be considered a fire. I "think" the model I have had something to do with a newer/ better break down knob/button in frount of the trigger guard.

The HS bough new and used are priced less. Many brag about the model 41.

Some of the HS 10x series prices are close to the S&W 41.

Max, the Victor in the pic I bought new in about 1982 + 0r - a year or so. It has a 5.5" bbl. If I recall it's a 106 series gun. It's a really great target pistol. It was on par with a S&W 41 at the time. A little different feel to the grip. I have heard on the internet that hi-velocity ammo might crack the frame, especially on older guns with weaker springs. I use CCI std vel in all of my High Standards. Go to rimfire central.com for lots of info.

We used High Standards when I shot on the NROTC pistol team in college Wish I could remember which model they were... for some reason "303" sticks in my mind but that doesn't seem to match up with anything.

Have a few different model B's to hold me over for now.

One of these taught me to shoot pistol. It cost $75; I saved for it during a summer job and shot it on a college pistol team and in the Army. I traded it in on a S&W 41 in the early 1960s. I still have the 41. Finally found a High Standard like mine at a local gun show. It's a keeper.

The Supermatic model before this is even scarcer: it's the same model gun but with no muzzle brake. There is a checkered sight rib on top of the barrel. It seems to be even higher in quality. I shot one for a while, someone else's that he let me shoot. I'd never seen another one until I saw one at a Dallas gun show a couple of years ago. He didnt' know what he had. I should have bought it, but I enlightened him, instead.

I only have one High Standard, an early twin lever "B" Model.



It is a great shooter, groups about 3" high and right at 50 yards.

I sold a Victor to a non believer. ( In the time I helped out to sell the inventory of a gunstore) The price was right. The buyer phoned me afterwarts. He told me he didn't have such accurate pistol before.

Hi-standard it is real old fashion quality.

Thanks for the info Dave b. Mine is a tack driver and will shoot "almost" anything I feed it. Shoots CCI the best,so I've always stuck with those rounds. It's got me a few trophies over the years and it's a keeper for sure.

Yep, I've got a couple. Lots of rounds thru this pair over the last 30 years.

I shot them in the Army. Supermatic Citation 107 Military, IIRC. More accurate than any of us could shoot.
Never cared for the thumbrest stocks nor the "toe" mag release.
Actually have one that's been sitting in my office for months. Belongs to a "friend of a friend". Was dropped off for my consideration. Made an offer that he did not accept, but the guy seems to have disappeared. So here they sit.
Beginning to wonder if there's an "adverse possession" rule that applies to guns!

I just picked up a high sierra,both cyl.,and presentation box,it's in minty cond.I hav'nt shot it yet,not sure i will.It must be the early one because it has no name on the octagon barrel. I thought it should say "the gun" or "high sierra"....not sure which one would be the most sought after or what they are worth.It's big on the cool factor and I like 22's.

Feralmerril, there have been reports of HS being prone to frame cracking at the rear top of the magazine well due to the use of high velocity ammo. It is also recommended to change the spring in the slide every few thousand rounds. I only use standard velocity ammo in my guns and have changed out the springs especially if I buy a used gun. I think it wise to remove the slide and check the frame on any used HS before purchase.

Pure dumb luck when I got this mod 103 Supermatic Tournament quite a while ago. The left-handed grips caught my attention, had shot a HS in my youth and was aware they were good. What a pleasant surprise when I got to a shooting level and I could appreciate just how good this pistol is. Took a while coming to terms w/smooth ammo feeding and finding extra mags. Feel free to contact me if you'd like my ammo feed solution.
Funny thing I've noticed. Many .22 target pistol owners will not conserve words to praise their choice. HS owners however, tend to quietly mention what they have, often without further comment. I look at the person when this happens, often I'll see a slight smile and a twinkle in the eye.
