We've got dogs. Two of them, and they make a great "warning system" but they're not big enough to do any harm. I just want my wife to have that sense of security anywhere in the house.
Everything that everyone has posted has been great advice that makes perfect sense but I still want something in arms reach for her just in case.
I don't think there's any such thing as being too prepared.
I've got plenty of shotguns, hunting rifles and large caliber autos and wheel guns, but the issue in my OP was my wife, here alone, in the shower with quick access to a gun that's not too much for her to handle.
Heck, if it were just for me I'd go for the 10mm or the .45.

I clean my Glock 23 in the dishwasher regularly after a range day of 500+ rounds with no ill effects whatsoever.
Did it to a H&K USP once and it ruined the finish. Note to remember, H&K would not warranty it either. Never did it with a S&W, not sure it'd hold up to a dishwasher.

I worked for the USNPS at National Recreation Areas for almost twenty years. It required a lot of Boat Patrol activity during the summer months. After a day on the Boats, it was mandatory to completely field strip and clean both of the Sigs I carried or you would have a film of rust the next day on the metal parts. The State Game Wardens we worked with carried Glocks and had far less problems with their guns than we did with the Sigs.
That said, I like Glocks and Sigs about equally.

I think everybody has sold me on the G19. Sounds major reliable and it's not too big for my wife to handle and plenty of round for close shots. Normally I consider 9mm a little small and under powered but for the purpose I'm lookin' for, it should be great.
Thanks for all the input guys. I got a lot of great responses to a question that I was afraid would be viewed as stupid.

Glocks will eventually suffer from corrosion on the internals if constantly exposed to water, particularly if you've got chlorinated water. Yes, I have taken Glocks in the shower, great way to clean crud out, but I would not leave one, or any gun, thus exposed indefinitely or make a regular habit of so exposing it without performing basic lubrication/maintenance on it afterwards. The gun ought be field stripped (if not detail stripped), dried and lubricated after every dunking.
While modern factory ammunition is pretty well waterproof, I also wouldn't feel like pressing my luck by having it constantly exposed to moisture such as in a shower. Ammunition will also corrode eventually.
I also would not have a Glock hanging about with a round in the chamber, so you'd want to keep it condition three.
For better results, stick your gun into one of these LOKSAK | Resealable Element Proof Transport & Storage Bags in a proper size. Not a Ziplock, but a proper waterproof storage bag.
Or you could just keep the gun in the bathroom and not in the shower itself.

I own two Glocks. I have a model G17 and a model G21. Ugly as sin firearms, blocky looking, not the best trigger, but they work any time I pull the trigger, just like I like my firearms.

Man, but I do so love the internet....
Where else would so many folks who wouldn't even know each other if they sat in the same booth at Denny's discuss what weapon to carry in the shower.....
Ya know there Wayne, if you took a bath instead you could make that a chocolate chip.... and a duckie.

I will definitely keep it clean and make sure the rounds are taken care of. I wasn't plannin' on keepin' it in the shower...just one of those, "just in case" guns. I take good care of my "kids" no matter how ugly they are.

Oh, I'm sure there have been plenty of jokes 'cause it is kind of a goofy thread, but hey...I've learned a heck of a lot from some fine folks.
So it's all good.

They are top shelf in the reliability department and the number in service daily is testament to their durability.
When it comes to revolvers I am S&W all the way but when I pick a pistol it then is a GLOCK.
FWIW I own a 17,19 and a 23, they have never failed to go bang and yes I do keep one in the bathroom while showering and it has never seemed to bother its performance.
