Winchester 1892 in 25-20
Yep, I'm on a roll...
Picked up this 1892 in 25-20 this afternoon. Had a little range session with it and must say that I'm very impressed with this early caliber. The gun dates from 1913 and is tight and mechanically correct. I've got to spend some time cleaning up the bore...but from the test shots ~ she's a accurate gun already...
I've had quite a few of the modern Winchester and Marlins. Actually have a few still. Gotta say that there is no comparison between the modern lever guns and these earlier original models. The older ones were just better built....

Beautifull gizmo! I once had a shot out one just like it 40 years ago and had it rebuilt, rebored and refinished in .357 mag. I stupidly sold or traded it. It looked factory new when we got done with it. Looking for another!

Very nice, you can never go wrong with an original 1892. I have a couple of them and love'em.

Reminds me of the one my grandfather had. After he died it disappeared amongst some of the relatives, maybe someday it will reappear if it wasn't sold.

Ya' know...
This little antique cartridge should be brought back again. It's kinda unique. Been looking over the ballistics on it. Pretty impressive. I've got a 92 in 32-20 and soon hope to pick up one in 38-40. All of them are neat old cartridges you rarely see mentioned anymore.

Sure Mike,
Here's a gun I'm rather fond of...
Back in 1973 Marlin made a small run of 44 Mags with a Octagon barrel. Perhaps the last of their kind as it has all the characteristics of the early guns.
No crossbolt safety on this one...

I've got an old Savage 23 Sporter made back in the 20's as far as I can determine, and it is very accurate. The bore looks like brand new, and overall condition is very good. It to, is in .25/20. It is a fun litle round.
You lever gun is very nice giz. If I'm not out a line asking, what did it set you back? I have looked at a couple of 92's in both 25/20, and 32/20. They were asking more for them than a near mint pre 29, with all the tools and correct case!

G4F,
The 25-20 in the condition shown is about a $1,100 - 1,200 range. I posted a high condition 32-20 Octagon from 1908 last week that would about a grand more. Bear in mind this is for the smaller calibers. A 38-40 or a 44-40 would go for significantly more. Take down models, etc... add their own multipliers to the various guns.

That's a great gun Giz. I'm a big fan of the 1892 myself.
This is a photo of one I've had for over 30 years now, it's also in 25-20. I shoot it all the time and even bought a set of dies for it. Great cartridge to reload.
Interesting enough I have studied that oval design in the forearm and it appears to be completely natural to the grain of the wood.

Here is a relic I used to own. Unfortunatly it was stolen and I have posted on it before. It came off a indian reservation in the dakotas. It was mfg in 1902 and was in 44 WCF. Its distictive, and if anyone runs across it, its hot!

Merril,
I'm looking at buying a carved and decorated 38-40 in a '92 Winchester. It was a factory reblue and the bore is perfect. But the carvings make me wonder if it isn't a tribal gun from up here in Maine. I'll post pics if I get it...

Here's mine from 1895 but someone reblued it. They wisely left the wood alone though. It's in .25-20 also.
