Described as a 1904 original 44-40 with a shiney bore, in the same family for three generations and with honest wear. $1150 OBO. I already have a take-down pistol grip 92 but this seems interesting. What do you think of the price?

Looks like a fair price considering everything has gotten crazy especially anything with Colt or Winchester on it. Just honest wear gives one character to me. Being a shooter, the bore is the heart and soul to me. No good to anyone if they can't be shot. A bad bore is like finding out your fiance was unfaithful the night before the wedding. Just puts a damper on the whole thing and nothing can be done about it to keep it original, cause you know it's been "fixed" . Also the 44-40 is a hot caliber for that model.

The wood looks great and it‘s not easy to find a .44-40 with an excellent bore. I can’t tell how much blue is left, but there appears to be a fair amount in protected areas. I’m not sure what’s up with the front sight, but for $1150 I’d drive a few hours to take a better look.

Hey! Keep my ex-wife outa this! My takedown 44 has a bulge in the barrel and I actually won a cowboy match with it. I don't shoot it anymore. Maybe I'll post a phone pic of it here. It's a pistol grip, round barrel, shotgun butt, with custom original sights and a cattle brand on the stock. Coolest gun on earth.

Hard to tell from the pic. Definitely got my interest. If it was near me...I'd race Chad for a chance to see it first...

I've got all the 92's except the 44-40 and the 218 Bee. One brings a premium and the other you have to sell both kidneys to get...

Wyatt, sorry, not intentional. If you are a dedicated shooter, that bore is just the heart of the whole matter and exterior finish can be overlooked if not pitting, etc. But then again as Dave Chicone told me as we were discussing a boo boo on a Smith "You just gotta forgive some things" I think he was talking about my gun?!

Nice 92 and I have always wanted a 92 or a Marlin 1894 in 25-20. I have a Marlin 1889 in 32-20 with a pristine bore, and 99% wood finish but sadly someone stored it badly and the metal suffered, but she shoots real tiny groups. And she came with a factory tang sight, all for $250.00. Now I can forgive that finish problem when I look at those tiny groups.

It's hard to find good, sharp pics of the M-92 on the Net.

I have a Winchester 92 in .32-20 that was made in 1927. I can take some pix of it if that is what you are looking for. Mine has a like-new bore and most of the outside is pretty decent. It is a "point and shoot" rifle for which I paid $1400 about 3 years ago and it has a 24" round barrel.

If it isn't too much trouble, I think many here would enjoy seeing it.

Giz, I'll bet it's been 20-25 years since I've heard, much less thought about the 218 Bee! I saw so few that I'd forgotten completely about it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
