Default First Ruger..!

Just got this one last night at an auction! It's a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Magnum.

It's in great condition but it looks like it might be a good candidate for CorrosionX. There's a slight haze or coating of rust on some of the surface areas.

"Mr. digi-shots" has been looking for a pre-warning Ruger for a while now, so I guess it's actually his!

I shot one of those in IHMSA competition for a couple of years, and they are excellent revolvers. Fitted with a spring kit to reduce trigger pull and a set of hand filling grips, they are very accurate especially if stoked with a good handload. Great choice!

Very nice Ruger. Looks great without a clean up.

I have one very similar and absolutely love it. It pairs nicely with a Marlin 1894S in the same caliber. If I ever get the money I am going to start the search for a 4 5/8" Old Model that hasn't been molested.

Looks just like the first Ruger I ever bought. Second the spring kit idea. Still have mine and hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.

Oooooh! Is that an Old Model? Does it still click 4 times or has it had the safety recall?

Forester,

Yes, it is an "old model", but it has had the safety conversion.

I had emailed our forum "Ruger Guru" Gizamo about this one, and he was nice enough to give me some "Ruger" tips.

Linda, that's a sweet looking gun, in great condition. I have a New Model 41 Mag with the shorter barrel.

Giz is definitely the guy to ask.

That gun, in the 4 5/8 barrel length was my first gun purchase, ever.

Still have it, still love it, won't ever sell it.

Congratulations, you'll like just about everything about the .41 mag caliber.

Linda,

That's a real looker in a great barrel length. As to the gun being safety converted.... If it bothers you or your husband enough ~ it can be converted back. Find another old model in rough condition that hasn't had the conversion. Bring both guns to a gunsmith and have him swap the parts. Then sell off the rough condition model. You'll end up with a original configuration in your fine old 3 screw...

Kinda like getting rid of the S&W IL, only better....

It's a good looking gun, even for a non-S&W..

I believe it's a first year model which puts it in the 1965 time frame.

Thanks, Giz. I'm still checking to see if the original parts that came out of the gun can be located. The gun did come with the Ruger "Conversion" Manual. I can't believe they kept the gun and the manual but tossed the parts. They might have just misplaced them.

The gun looks OK in the photo, but something's missing to make it a TRUE Ruger...??? Rocks?
