I saw one of these for sale, it seems cheap enough, looks like a Walther, never having owned a Makarov I don't have much experience with them or the Polish guns. Anyone out there own one of these or fired one?

I have a Russian made Mac. It's reliable and shoots really well despite a poor trigger pull. Good bang for the buck. CCI has thier blazer ammo useing the gold dot bullet for the 9X18.

I know this gun, but have never used one. Have seen some "as new" at gun shows. I've heard that they're "kickers", given the design., size, and the power of the ctg.

I hope they work better than the Polish light bulbs that I bought!

The Polish M-64 is NOT a Makarov. Just chambers the same ammo. It does seem to be a Walther PP series spinoff.

The P64 is my carry gun for the hot months because it fits into my right front pocket and just disappears. As issued double action pull is almost impossible but it can be reduced to managable with a little action honing and replacing the mainspring with one from a Walther PPK. Single action, at least on mine, is very light and crisp. Mine is loaded with Silver Bear hollow points. They are very accurate and seem to expand well in the tests I've seen. Recoil is sharp but not painful. Its not the best but I can hit with it and its something I don't mind losing if need be. They come with two different sized hammers. One is a tiny nubbin type that just barely sticks out; the other style is larger and can be thumb cocked. I chose the larger style.

Yep , more like a PPK , but thicker. Well built , nicely machined steel parts. Very heavy DA trigger pull. Springs don't help much due to the design of the firing mechanism.

I'll have to agree to this. My P64 feels similar to my PPK-S as far as size and shape and it's finished pretty well on the outside. Here's my P64 left, and PPK-S on the right.
But internally the workmanship and machining are pretty crude compared to a Walther.

The P-64 is a quality firearm, but one that is definitely NOT for novices. It is accurate, small, relatively light, and has holster choices (I carry it in one made for the Walther PPK and the fit is perfect). Those are the good points. On the negative side, it's DA trigger pull is very heavy. I can manage it, but it destroys accuracy. The SA follow-up shots hit center thanks to the P-64's REALLY nice SA trigger pull, one of the best I have experienced, period. So, how to carry this Polish pistol? I think the only safe way is condition 3, Israeli fashion, with 6 in the magazine. Safety on or safety off, if there is a round in the chamber and you accidently drop the pistol IT WILL DISCHARGE, especially if it lands on its nose. There is no firing pin block, only a hammer block on this pistol. Keep those things in mind and you will have a very accurate and worthwhile pistol for about $250.
