Shotgun pistol grip ?
Does anyone know if they make a wood pistol grip for a shotgun? I want to turn my mossberg 500 into a "home" gun but I don't like the looks of the black accessories. I like the look of wood and steel. I have never seen a wood grip just wondering if anyone else has.

I haven't seen them in a long time but I know that speedfeed use to make wood pistol grips. I handled a US Marshall that was equipped with it. It looked good with it but for more than a magazine full of buckshot I prefer a Hogue or Pachmayr rubber grip.

heres a case where you might want to try to balance aesthetics and punishment.
even a grip with comfort in mind will put the hurts you you where serious feed is concerned.
hope you can finish the fight with 3 rounds of full house 00 3" magnums. Thats about all your hand will be up for.
Unless I have special call for it, like concealed carry or automotive roles, I prefer a full stock. It seems to assist pointability in all firing positions.

IMHO
Go with one of the collapsable M-16 clone style models. Or an OEM "youth stock". Your wrist, hand, and possibly even bridge work will be glad you did. If you insist on going a P/G rear, I highly recommend a nylon strap on the fore arm. It'll keep the gun from rising off your hand during recoil.

I've only put the black grips & pump handle in my 870, but I did have a collapsing butt stock on it once, but it was black too..

+1. I like wood over black myself, that's what my Win1200 Dfndr has. But it's a full stock. Those pistol grips...ouch!!! Even messing around w-birdshot those things just tear you up.

Here is a wood grip on a Remington. These were made by Scattergun Technologies (now owned by Wilson Combat). When Wilson bought Scattergun Technologies several years back they stopped making them.
I know Speedfeed makes a plastic copy of the grip for Remington, Mossberg, and Winchester I believe.

At bedroom distance you still have to aim...so I'm not a big fan of pistol grips...

I would just get another wood stock and cut it down. A few basic tools and plenty of sanding will get the same results in pictures

Ever shot a 12 ga with just a pistol grip ? I have an old 'revelation ' (mossberg 500 for western auto) cut to 18" with the stock cut down to a pistol grip (I won this in a bet) other than an amusing conversation piece and for a few demonstration shots it's pretty worthless. Get a shorter barrel and keep the conventional stock - it will be much more practical and controllable.

The style of stock in Whitecoyote's post/pic is called a "Birdshead". They are somewhat less punishing than a typical pistol style grip/stock. I was told this is due to the recoil force being distributed differently. I have a black synthetic one on a 18", 12ga pump. This may or may not assist in your search for that style in wood. Best of luck, hardcase60

Putting aside that this is a 7 1/2 year old necropost, pistol grips on a serious shotgun are flat out dumb. They are really unpleasant when you actually fire a round, and not consistent with aiming and performing well (you do have to aim with a shotgun regardless of the ammo you use, unlike the folklore).

Recently acquired a Mossberg ShockWave.
It's a Model 590 with a 14" barrel.
