Default Ruger Air rifle ?

I recently purchased a Ruger Hawk Elite air rifle. It was sort of a spur of the moment purchase and I didn't do much research. It is heavy but seems to shoot fine.

It came with a 3-9 variable scope. I have it mounted and sighted in but it loosens pretty soon after a few shots. I guess I need to Loctite the screws. Do you think that will solve the problem? The gun does seems to have alot of recoil for an air rifle.

I have some swinging pedulum targets, one at 20 yds and one at 35 or so. The 20 gets hit pretty regular but the longer one is few and far between and if I aim for the center pendulum the left one usually gets hit.

At what kind of ranges do you folks shoot these rifles and what kind of accuracy can I expect? I haven't really played with the adjustable trigger yet and there is alot of travel before she breaks. How do you set your trigger? What kind of fun targets do you have set up?

Thanks

Starlings are a fun target. At the longer range wind
becomes a factor. Just make sure it is a calm day. Don

Is it a .177 caliber? Lots of folks do not realize how much recoil a spring driven air rifle has. Most scoped rifles have a scope stop (metal thing at the rear base) to stop the scope from being forced back. Get the scope zeroed in and use BLUE Loc Tite. Lots of "springers" are very accurate 25 yards or more. Targets? anything you want to shoot. Buy a box of clay shotgun targets, they are fun, plastic bottles. empty shotgun shells, cans etc.

If you look carefully you'll see a scope stop block behind the rear mount on this air rifle. There's usually a hole in the dovetail which accepts a stud or screw to keep the block from moving backwards or forwards. Beemans has the scope blocks on their site.

I have two Rugers, one wooden stock and one composite stock. Both are rated @1000 ft per sec. They are a Chinese clone of the RWS Diana 34, and a real good copy. Actually you can use Diana 34 replacement parts.

They are licensed by Ruger. and both of mine are of decent quality and are very accurate.

My composite stock is a later production gun and has a scope stop built in.
