Hi Guys, i am a new member and m contacting you from Greece. I saw a S&W at my local gun shop which needed some tlc. The only thing is we do not know which model it is, it had a bullet logged in the barrel and rattles like help jamming quiet often. On the side it says Chiefs Special and made in Germany. It seems like a .32 but i can only find .38 on the net. As i own a Glock 17 and Sig Sauer P226 for practical shooting i am interested in buying and repairing this beauty as to start a classic and quality gun collection. It is not a Smith & Wesson. I don't know who made it, but S&W didn't, regardless of any markings.

Fooled me. I stand corrected. My Chief's Special does not SAY "Chief's Special". The side plate shapes & screws are indeed wrong. The knock off did fool me. I can not think of any reason to own it.

Probably made by RG - it has some of the RG "looks".

Not a Smith, IMO. Note the shape of the trigger, the sideplate doesn't have the traditional S&W shape (dead give away), and the forward lug that the ejector rod snaps into (barrel lug) isn't a S&W design. The screws holding the sideplate are all wrong, the front one is bigger than current manufacture, the one behind the trigger is bigger than anything S&W has ever used. Of course, the grips are not right, they remind me of RG grips. Another key point is that the OP says it's a "Chiefs Special, made in Germany". The Chiefs Special was never marked on S&W revolvers, and they didn't make em in Germany.

Has S&W logos on both sides and is missing the Marcus Registradis stamping on the right side. Sideplate fit is definitely not S&W and the stocks do not fit the frame well.

I would guess that it is one of the many knock offs that are made to look like a S&W but fall well short.

Unless you want to start a collection of S&W knock offs, I would recommend walking away. There are other real S&W's that can be had and without slugs lodged in their barrels.

PS:The extractor "nibs"* are not the correct shape either. (*not sure of the correct terminology)

to me it looks like something made by one of the German "knallpistol" makers - some of them even make "live" guns. I have seen a gun like this one in Germany but cant recall the maker just now.

- I was i Kiel, Germany a while ago and went into a gun store - it was full of guns - all copies.. made for 9mm blanks. With the guns laws in most of europe there is a big industri for "knall pistols" - in some contries you are allowed to carry such a gun for sellfdefence - just imagine what happens when the bad guy har a real gun - cause they do have the real stuff..

Interesting, can you elaborate on the S&W approval aspect?
How would S&W, with the ability to import their products, with a worldwide name brand to protect, be willing to allow this sort of copy?

I'm really curious as to how this is possible? The picture of the gun in your post is clearly more current and of better quality than the other pics in the original post, but still - what benefit would S&W derive from having their name licensed on a product that is not of their making/standards.

Yes - this one is for blanks - With guns constantly beeing more restricted here there is a big market for "non lethal" copies - and you can buy all kinds of guns i a blanks firing version - prices on theese are just as high as on real guns sometimes. All the makers are into this, if you look around the Umarex site you will find everything from MP5's to Glock, Colt and S&W. They have a very close relationship with Walther

I'm a total newb, and have no idea how to start a new thread, but I would appreciate help more so on my reason for being here as opposed to site navigation....
I recently purchased a basket case S&W 38spl that originally was chrome / nickel, then painted OD green, and apparently was in the process of being stripped down again when it made its way to my door. I have all the parts, but just in case, I'd like to find an exploded view that would help me asses my mess a bit more accurately.
Step 1.) What is it? It's a hand eject 5 screw, with no model number on the yoke, it has 38 S & W Special CTG stamped on the barrel, and has a serial number of 450882. The inside of the grips indicate it is a K frame, and after that I'm completely lost.....

I agree that it seems strange that S&W would authorize the labeling. If someone became injured in any way with one marked as S&W, I see a huge liable issue whereby the victim could claim he/she purchased it based on the reliability and safety certification by the manufacture.
