Thumbs up Pic of My Colt Walker (For You Lonesome Dove Fans...)

Here's a picture my Colt Walker. Well, it's a replica and have had it for a while. But the pic is really about the background sign, just got it today.

I have a Dragoon, the "light weight" offspring of the Walker. It is one heavy handgun. It is no wonder the holsters made for them were intended to be worn by the HORSE!

Great chunk of iron. My friend has a Dragoon so I made him this slim jim. I stuck my SAA in there for the shot. I have to get it to him to see if his gun fits in it OK. Fancy border stamped and this one is russet brown. Anyone interested, $60 shipped until the end of the month. Hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread but these great sixguns don't get much coverage in these forums. Thanks.

Barry,

The sign is a dead ringer. . .way to go. Could I see some close ups of the Walker? I've never seen one up close, but from what I have heard this is a formidable weapon.

Thanks.

I got it here..

It was after Nov 1st but talked them into free shipping. It looks aged like it should. The letters aren't burnt, but painted (not sure which was done of the real one in the movie). The letters are aged some too.

Didn't consider as a hijack. If you can hook some people up with some good leather, go for it! Nice looking holster by the way.

It is a pretty hefty hunk of iron. Almost 16 inches long and 4 1/2 pounds. Try holding that one handed in firing position.... I believe it would do a good job for a pistol whipping...

It's a Uberti in charcoal blue which can be seen here. I'll try and get some pics up of it tonight or tomorrow night.

Good question, maybe someone will know, I don't.

Anybody else have some old BP guns (or replicas) they could post? I wouldn't mind seeing them....

Thanks for the interest everybody.

At the NRA convention in Phoenix back in (was it '86?) the original Colt Walker, actually used by Captain Walker, was on display. To my amazement, the owner actually let me handle it. I think several thousand dollars worth of atoms actually transferred to my hands - I didn't want to wash my hands for weeks. Sure was a helluva revolver, for sure.

I may have to get me one.

One of the gun shows we have at my hotel a guy sets up with a real Walker (which he let me handle). It's a beater, but still valuable. I didnt ask the price, but he had a big bore Colt revolving rifle he was going to throw in with the Walker if someone bought it.

Well , since my all-time favorite movie and the one that started my love affair with black powder sixguns is The Outlaw Josey Wales , ya know I got a brace of Walkers (Colt Blackpowder Series & Armi San Marco) as well as an 1860 (Colt Signature Series) for a belly gun.

That goes to show how imposing a pair of Colt Walkers are when you consider an 1860 Army 44 a belly gun!

In OJW , Clint carried 2 Walkers in holsters (Walkers were originally meant to be carried in saddle or 'pommel' holsters) , and an 1860 tucked in his belt right behind the buckle , for quick draw.

What's impressive is the way he handled these behemoth revolvers with ease.

As requested but I'm not too good with the camera. A pic of the Walker, both sides, and a pic with a 6 1/2" .44 Magnum.

mkk41, I was really speaking for myself and agreeing with you. I mean I personally consider my 1860 conversion a belly gun compared to Walker Colts. I knew what you meant even though I might have sounder like I was disagreeing with you. sorry about that.

from Google:

The Latin phrase that appears on the Hat Creek Cattle Company sign in "Lonesome Dove" is a garbled corruption, and there's no direct translation. It derives from the scholia to Juvenal 2.81 which cites the proverb "uva uvam videndo varia fit" This means something like "a grape changes color [i.e., ripens] when it sees [another] grape"

Novelist Larry McMurtry probably intentionally misused the Latin, perhaps to make a point about Augustus McCrae's tenuous understanding of the language.

From there, any number of interpretations have arisen to explain why McMurtry chose to communicate that particular idea. Probably the soundest theory is that the phrase serves as a metaphor for the group's journey, as many of the story's characters go through a process of personal maturation and development. Much like grapes ripen in the presence of others.

Default From the dark side

My only B.P. era revolver with a few loaded .45 S&Ws.

This might make a good "belly" gun.
