Colt New Service Reproduction Grips (Pic) from NC Ordnance
I recently ordered from N.C. Ordnance in Wilson N.C. some reproduction Colt New Service style grips (stocks if one prefers) for my custom 1917 .45.
I'm not far from Wilson NC...ordered on-line one day and got them in the mail next day. There was a little proud plastic on the back edge and bottom, plus one retaining pin hole needed drilling a little deeper. 30 minutes later they were good to go.
I like'em!

Great looking NS!
I just bought a Colt 1917 snubbie conversion also. I'll pick it up tomorrow. Not as nice and featured as yours.

Cocked and Locked, did you do the work on that New Service? It looks real good. I have a very beat up New Service That I am thinking about making a snubbie out of. But there is no way I could make it look that good. If you did not do the work, would you mind telling me who did? How long it took, and a ball park price? Thanks, Waldo

I really like those wood grip stocks on your 1917. Who made them, might I ask?

C&L, thank you for your response. I have both of the books in your picture. Will have to reread the articles. That may be where I got the idea of making a snub nose out of my New Service. I was not aware that Dean Grennell had passed. I am sorry to here that. I used to always enjoy his writing. When Gun Digest was still published by Digest Books, around Christmas time they would always have a buy one, get one free sale. They would pay the shipping. For years I would order the Gun Digest and Guns Illustrated and get a couple of free books. Since they changed hands, they have stopped having that sale. And I have stopped buying the books.

If you're referring to the ones in the second picture, they're Herrett's.

Mickey D....do you mean these? If so, I don't know. They were on the Colt when I got it. There is no maker's name nor any other markings on the back side.

Yep, those. I just bought a Colt 1917 and the grips on it look like originals, but fit like hell. Must have shrunk.
