Loadedround has the best option, I have a MkII 22/45. Great shooter. Go to the Ruger forums, I think the fix your looking for is probably posted there.

That would be the easiest way to do it.

The Ruger Mark I, II, or III gun can be very difficult to disassemble and reassemble. I put Volquartzen parts in my Mark II and it took me a while.

the overblown issue of the ruger being hard to assemble or disassemble is one of incompetence , ignorance , lack of the ability to read directions or lack of mechanical ability

Its not hard when ya learn how...

My point exactly. I was trying NOT to be blunt or rude. I've seen disassembled Mark II guns brought to a gunsmith in pieces in a shoe box or plastic bag. As far as guns go, they ARE difficult and not something to be tackled by someone who doesn't have the mechanical ability.

Jed, RimfireCentral is the place you ot to be. (sung to the Beverly Hillbillys theme song)

Here is a great post on parts and dissasembly. Does not specifically state how to remove it but gives you a idea of all the parts and how to take it apart and them bring a bag of parts to you local gunsmith

Caj, I don't the answer to your question, but I've had good luck getting answers to Ruger questions from the guys on the Ruger forum: RugerForum.com :: Index

You might want to try there.

There is really no reason to take them apart on a regular basis. You can clean the bore from the muzzle if you are careful, and not damage the crown. Blast the action with some gunscrubber and re-oil.

If you do have to field strip it, it is a bit tedious but not impossible. It just takes a little patience. You might do this every few years depending on how much it is shot. I put 1000s of rds. through my .22s before I clean them.

If you want to disassemble it, here is a link to the how to videos:
Ruger Videos#

I made a printout of this one. Very helpful:

I have one MK II and two MK IIIs. I have disassembled all of them and replaced the sears with VQ sears, replaced the triggers with Marvel triggers and replaced the hammers and hammer bushings of the MK IIIs with MK II VQ hammers and bushings. That eliminates the mag safety and provides a very nice trigger. If I don’t have to take apart the trigger, I don’t bother to pull the upper receiver off the lower receiver. I pull the bolt and clean from the chamber end. Very simple.

Default No Improvement

The Mark II is a bit of an improvement over the MarkII. I don't see any improvement in the Mark III except for the lawyers. The take-down is not that bad if you follow the directions in the manual. The exception to that for me is when the gun was new it took a lot of extra force to get the bolt stop out and to separate the receiver and the grip frame. By extra force I mean a few taps with a plastic hammer. If Ruger wanted to improve the Mark III they could have made it with a threaded bolt stop so that it would have been easy to withdraw the bolt and clean from the breach. I need to go look at my manual to see if I am calling the part that goes through the tubular receiver by the right name (bolt stop??).

Had a mkII for years. Gave it to my wife2B. She loves it, BTW.
Kinda unsettling that she shoots it so well, however.
Got a mkIII Target now.

Don't care much either way about the mkIII's mag disconnect 'cept the fact that it's yet another of the ingenious solutions to non-existent problems that the gun manufacturers force upon us so much, as of late.

And yep, I'm another one whose mkII wound up going to a gunsmith in a bag after I got 'er apart the first time.

Funny thing about some features of the MKII that most would consider an improvement. You will never find a last shot hold open on an international level standard pistol or rapid fire pistol. They want every shot to feel and recoil just alike. This is how my Pardini SP is and You get used to it. The thing most would not get used to are the 5 round magazines. I have an old Hammerli that has the last shot hold open feature and it's called the American Model. I think it's a 107, the slide stop on it is worn out and I have not gotten it repaired.

You do not need mechanical ability; you need a third hand.
