Default Resurrected Marlin "Mountie" carbine (pics)...

I think I posted some pics not long ago of a Marlin Mountie .22 carbine in need of some work. Got it from a friend who was downsizing his collection, it was missing the magazine tube, the forearm mounting tip had some issues, one broken screw and one wrong screw (the wooden forearm was barely being held on). The rear sight was loose, so that the elevator was in danger of being lost.

Got it back from the gunsmith today, he made me a mag tube by cutting down a full size Model 39 tube, fixed all the other bits, and charged me $80, which I thought was quite fair.

Stopped at the range to shoot it, first group was a little left, drifted the rear sight to correct it and I was in business! Shoots groups about 1" at 25 yards, shot from the prone position. Here's some pics:

Shot one group with my Henry .22 lever rifle to compare, they shoot comparable size groups. The Henry is sighted in "Point of Impact, Point of Aim", so the group is low, since I forgot and used a 6 O'clok hold...

Anyway, I'm quite satisfied with the rifle, it shoots pretty good for a rifle made in 1955, and has obviously seen a lot of time outdoors. This one is no safe queen, for sure...

Looking good, I have a Marlin carbine 39 and it is a great squirrel gun.

Congrats, nice restoration at a very reasonable price, IMO. The Mountie is one of the best .22 leverguns made. I have two of them that I exercise several times a year, and they are right up there with the Browning BL-22, the Win 9422M (22 Mag) and the Marlin 57M (22 Mag) as my favorite rimfire leverguns.
