anyone know RIA 1911 tactical pistols?
I finally got cleared with the ruler of the house AKA my wife to get a new gun in 2 weeks and I have read a TON of reviews all saying great things about the guns but to change to better mags, anyone know too much more because for it's price I need a 1911

I bought one of them a while back because it was cheap. It had some issues returning the trigger so I put in a new sear spring and smoothed the trigger slots a bit and now it works fine. (I also replaced those wooden grips, look too cheesey for me) Nice tight gun and for the price it's great. I think I put a stronger recoil spring and a buffer in it. I can't tell you right now because the gun is home in Idaho and I'm staying warm in Tucson.

If you mean the one that looks like a plain-jane M1911A1, I've got
one that's been used for a couple years now. Very smooth action.
It came with 8-round mags, (2). It shoots as well as any auto I've
ever shot, with no problems. A good deal for the money.
It came with a flat mainspring housing, which got replaced with a curved one just for personal preference. I think it was about $370, used.

I have a couple or five. I have Government, Commander Sized and a Compact. Nice guns for the price. I've never had a problem with any of them. Some I'm put a couple of throusand rounds through and others, such as the compact I've only shot about five hundred round of ball through. I carry ball in short barreled guns like that as I don't think that they will develope the velocity to consistantly expand hollow points. I use ATC Magazines with the Government/Commander Guns and Colt for the Compact.
They all run and I use Wolff Recoil Springs in them. I shoot ball and hollow points in them with no problems.
My opinion is that its one of the best deals for the money out there. I'd be sure and get the Tactical Models as the first couple I got were standard 1911 Grovernment Models and I had to add Wilson Beaver Tail Grip Safetys and Skelatonized Hammers.
The first two Rock Isands I got were Twin Pines and cost $225.00 each.
I got Colts, CZs, Norincos and old Kimbers, but these are good guns for the money spent on them.

I got the 5" RIA 1911-A1 and really like it. I haven't shot it too many times, or put a quantity of rounds through it, but it is fairly accurate. On the paper at 15 yards no problem, even a couple of bullseyes on the first magazine.
They seem to be around $400 or so, new.

I had three different models, a basic GI than ran great, another basic GI in 38 Super that was a blast to shoot, and thier Tactical model. Had an issuse with the last one, the barrel wasn't throated properly. Got it fixed and it was fine.
Their not bad for the money.
If it's in the budget, I would buy a Dan Wesson.

I have one of their mil-spec versions. It's been 100 percent reliable and accurate from day one. Got to say for a inexpensive version of a Gov't 45, it's been a very satisfactory gun. I put a set of rosewood Kimber grips on mine, tuned the trigger a tad, and figured out what reloads it likes. Yep, she's a keeper.

I have the RIA 1911 5" Tactical.
Shoots fine right out of the box.
No issues with mags and bought 6 additional
Novak/Act-Mags 8 rounders.
Shoots great.
I painted the front sight red for better visibility
and just added Hogue Rubber Grips.

I've don't have the tactical model but I do have a GI .38 Super. All I've done with mine is replace the grips and the sights (put on some Fusion 3-dots), and bought some good mags. Had a few feeding problems out of the box but after a real good cleaning & lube, polishing the feed ramp a bit, and getting the new mags it runs like a champ. I got mine new at a gun show, straight up trade for a rifle that I paid $200 for. It was tagged $418.
The tactical models are nice because they have all of the usual add-on goodies for not much more money but they don't come in .38 Super. Luckily I like a basic 1911 so I'm happy.

I have 2 GI's and a tactical. All 3 are tight and right. They shoot as well as my Colts and Springfield Armory's. I've never had problem one with any of them. You can't go wrong with a Rock Island Armory.

Good for you... I have a old Remington Rand in 100% original parts in excellent condition. I consider the two guns to be equal.
The RIA cost 1/4th what the RR is worth. It also shoots better on paper...

You wont be sorry... my EDC is a brushed nickel RIA tactical.
I have also owned the RIA match, both great pistols.
My wifes EDC is a new High Standard 1911 officers compact, made by the same people at Armscor.
They have the best customer service I have ever seen.
I carry mine is Rays IWB, and am VERY pleased with the combination of pistol and leather.
My RIA match is the pistol I used to teach my wife about autoloaders in general, and 1911s in particular.
I planned on showing her how to deal with malfunctions and slipped a fired case midway down in each of the magazines... to cause a jam.
No dice... it fed the fired case and the good it was, was that she got to practice on clearing a fail to fire.
I have never seen another brand of 1911 that would feed a fired case.
This is the uncovered look at my tactical.
Good luck with your purchase.
Jim

RIA is probably the best bang for the $$ in the market and they have the best customer service going. If you get one and have an issue, call Ivan or Arnel in Nevada and they'll get you taken care of.

There is a dealer on Gunbroker who is selling the Rock Island Tactical for about $ 440 and the standard gun is $380 and both include free shipping and no sales tax.

I bought a compact a few years ago, and added a beaver-tail and little better sights. It shoots nearly as well as my Gold Cup. Very well made.

I like the grips... Are they supposed to be the skull from The Punisher? Very nice.
