What new Ruger?
I know this is a Smith forum, but I like em' all. Anyhow, Ruger's web site has a countdown showing for what I presume is the announcement of a new firearm. Any ideas on what it could be from anybody?

It's their new compact version of 1911 Government model. Rumor has it that it carries a 38lb mainspring and is in a new .454 Casull GAP caliber.
Folks are workin' up Ruger Only Loads for it, as we speak...

3 of the my last 3 have been retro single actions. Their train seems to leaving me further behind all the time...
Used to have a fair chunk of their stock; but it quit generating dividends some time ago. Sold it for a big Honda EU 6500 that goes generate something I can use.

No, no, no, it's a 40mm heat seeking grenade launcher that integrates with the SR556...
Well, it's either that or this New Ruger for 2010!

Turns out it is a GP-100 7 shot 327mag and an 8 shot Blackhawk in 327mag.

With all the recent recalls from S&W's PPK/S's & 22A's to Ruger's LCP's, it's to announce a new program known as "Recall in a Box." When you buy your new handgun, you now get an empty box with this note inside:
"Your new gun was recalled before it left the factory. It will be repaired & sent to you sometime within the next 4 months. This Automatic Recall System was designed to decrease consumer frustration by acknowledging that our R&D boys failed to get it right the first time & by letting our customers know from the outset of their purchase that this is now SOP within the industry.
"As our valued cuss-tomer, enclosed is a free 4-month prescription for a new anti-depressant specific to our market: Recallitrol. Recallitrol has been proven to suppress your desire to call our Customer Service line & bless out our representatives. Recallitrol is non-addictive, and it does not affect your anger should your automobile be recalled. (Note: Recallitrol should not be taken by frustrated political conservatives who would like to recall any elected officials. FDA studies of the effects of Recallitrol on FPC's are incomplete at this time, although Washington is interested in the possibilities.)
"Please be advised that due to an increase in shipping costs effective January 1, 2010, you may be liable for S&H charges when your gun finally does ship. If this makes you want to trade your American plastic for German alloy frames, please be advised that Sig is having its own set of problems, & the Euro exchange rate favors them."
Sincerely,
Willie Dinklemeyer,
VP of Cuss-Tomer Service

Ruger is pushing the .327 and S&W is waiting to see what happens. Of course Charter and Taurus are in the game too. Availability and price of the ammo is the real question.

A Tactical #1 would be a big seller- in black or camo of course!
Good shooting!

Companies like Freedom Arms and Gunsmiths like Hamilton Bowen are creating Single Action .327's that will get your attention.
Hopefully the .327 is here to stay. It is an awesome example of what happens when companies like Ruger and Hornady get together. One of my favorite calibers is the .204 Ruger. It's definitely a welcome addition to useful cartridges.

I'm thinking the .327 would be a dandy round for a lever gun/revolver combo.

Also introduced today is a compact version of the much-maligned SR9 . . . called the SR9c of course.
If ya can't get it right the first time, MAKE IT SMALLER! It's a little Rooger Booger!

Call me jaded, but I'm unimpressed.
I've always been a Ruger fan and have a lot of their products...however they seem to have been on the wrong path recently.
Had my share of problems with "P" pistols...but they all work ok now...after factory replacement parts were installed.
A shortned version of the SR9 is just a "ho-hum" for me.
Just sitting quietly awaiting the recall.....oh, they haven't even released it yet.

I'm trying to understand the appeal of the new .327 GP100 and Blackhawk. They both seem to be trying to fill niches that really didn't exist. The snubby SP101 makes sense, a longer barreled SP-101 with adjustable sights would make sense as a kit gun. A fixed sight 3" GP100 with the smaller SP101 grips would make sense as a carry gun. I just don't see the need for a full sized 4" version.
The new Blackhawk makes a little more sense but it seems very heavy for a .32 caliber gun. If they built it off the misdize frame that they used for the 50th Anniversay .357 Blackhawks and the current .44 Specials I think it would have more appeal.
I don't get it, Ruger came out with these 2 guns that nobody really asked for. Yet a lot of us for years have beeen asking for a stainless 4-5/8" Bisley with adjustable sights and still haven't seen one...
