The Colt SAA...
Anyone favor the Colt single action ?
True classic and fun to shoot.
I have managed to stick back two.
Both are first year third gen's.
45 Colt factory engraved w/Ivory and a dandy little 44 sp.

I regret selling mine years ago. I have a Remington M1875 repro, a Ruger Superblackhawk-Old Model, a Ruger Blackhawk-Old Model,a Virginian Dragoon and an Abilene, but I agree, nothing like the Real Thing.
Your top one looks like it should have "GSP" engraved on the grips.

I have a 1st gen. 38/40 and a 3rd gen .357, for strengh and function Rugers will kick their butt. And the Italian clones are prob'ly just as good as 'the real thing'. (and alot cheaper)
But then, 'Hoppy' never packed no Ruger!!!..... (or Uberti)

My favorite gun of all time and too expensive to run out and get one very often. Here's my long ones.
A 1958 .45 with stags, An 1975 44-40 with pearl's, and a 1971 .45 reblued soon to get case colored by Turnbull.
Better shot of the Centennial .44...
And two short .45's. 1957 and 1920...

A. Honestly I do think they function just as well. They are not as pretty.
B. True. (sadly)
You forgot the most important reason to 'pony' up, for a Jen-u-wine Colt. (C)

You have got to love the Colt SAA!
I own four of them.
Two (2) Colt SAA Blued/CCH 4 3/4" .44 Special with Ivory Grips
(Here is a fair photo of them)
One Colt SAA Blued/CCH 4 3/4" 45 Colt with an extra .45 ACP cylinder with Carved Steerhead Ivory Grips
and the New One that I just purchased is a .....
Colt SAA Blued/CCH 7 1/2" .45 Colt with an extra .45 ACP cylinder. Right now it wears the hard rubber grips and I'm trying to decide if the new shoes will be walnut, stag or ivory???

I have 2 SAAs a shooter, and a "queen", that I should trade away. I love them. I have never found any firearm with the natural balance of the SAA. To me it shoots where you point it. To just hold it out in front of me, with one hand, just over waist high, is so much fun.

I don't really single actions ( ), they don't fit my hand well. I do wish I'd never traded one in .357 that put .38 specials right to the point of aim with .38's.
So I bought this .38 WCF not too many years ago, because a gun nut has to own one. More of a Roy Rogers kinda guy myself, though.

This the only one I've ever had, and I'm not sure it counts since its a New Frontier and doesn't have the classic Colt look. It is a .45, at least.

I bought myself two split S/A third gen's as a retirement present for myself when I retired. One a 4 5/8" black powder frame and one in 7 1/2". Both in 45 Colt. Both are good shooter's with the proper sized bullet's and both shoot to the sights. Fit and finish are so so but they are Colt's!

I have always wanted a real Colt SAA. I have owned several clones as well as several Rugers but never the real thing. There is a big show coming up here in Houston in the next couple of weeks. Maybe I will dig something of the safe and see what I can find. I have a like new early 70s Combat Commander that might get me there...

Don't often get to feature the Colt Single Action Army on the S&W Forum.
First generation .38-40.

Great display gents.
vrichard: I have the twin to that one you show in a 1962 model in 357. Wonderful shooters.
The best Colt SAA I ever had was a 1956 version 4-digit serial # 45. With the dust and patina of a trail of 50 years giving it irreplaceable cosmetic grace, it fit my hand perfectly and had been properly touched over the years to an absolute perfect trigger. There was a small brass insert on the front sight that worked wonders for my geezer eyes.
It was stolen, with others, from my locked truck IN my driveway 4 years ago.

While I've never owned one, I have shot them, I have a fondness for them just like I do for the SA S&Ws.

This one of the biggest reasons I hate Ruger handguns, they never heard of the word "balance".

Actually, Hoppy did not tote a Colt either, they were Remingtons.
I had to make mine a USFire Arms .45. CVould not force myself to spend the bucke for the Colt considering how hard I am on guns. They work.

I recently saw an engraved SAA in .45 Colt from around the early 1900's. It was owned by a Perry Co. Miss. sheriff's deputy and is still in his family and not for sale. I'll have to make do with my Stampede as I'm not gonna spend the bucks for the real thing.

I bought a 1st generation Colt SA in 32-20 back in 1956. Gave 65 bucks for it. It was made in 1926. Had it converted to 44 Special because of reading Elmer Keith's writings. Bought a Geo. Lawrence #120 holster. Carried the old gun many a mile hunting.I know I don't have a collector piece but I've taken 5 bucks with it over the years. Still have it & it isn't a safe queen.
