Default Does this shotgun exist?

I'm looking for a 20ga, pump action shotgun with wooden stock/forearm grip and a tubular magazine that holds at least 6 rounds. So far I've found zero matches. Anyone know of one?

The wood stock / forearm makes that one tough. With a 6 shot mag the most likely cantidates are riot / personal defense guns.
The closest I could find is a Mossberg 500 tactical cruiser 20GA 6 shot, but it has a synthetic stock.

Choate makes a three round extension to fit a Remmy 870. About $50, I think.
Best,

I think the 870 and extension is likely the way to go. Thanks.

Remington makes and lists a 20ga. "tactical express" that while it comes with black nylon stock and forend, should be easy to switch with the wood off of a stardard express gun. I have seen these new for between 3 and 4 hundred dollars at several places.

If you want the nice looking gun get the Remington Wingmaster pump. The wood on the express models is pretty ugly. The only problem I see is getting an extension for the magazine in 20 gauge. There may be lots of them I don't know. Most of the "tactical" stuff is 12 gauge. You really can have most of the loads a 20 gauge uses in 12 gauge, but to each his own.

I agree with using a Chaote mag extension. Only possible problem is that SOME of the recent Remingtons have "dimpled" mag tubes that prevent extras shells from feeding. You can either remove the dimples or buy a Remington WITHOUT the dimples. (Remove Barrel and check the far front end of the mag tube for three dimples.)

Choate mag extensions are STEEL! They come with shell follower, new longer spring, and clamp for mag tube to barrel. The shell follower is designed to prevent spring bind when attempt to add "just one more" shell.

If for Home Defense - a previous thread suggested using #3 Buckshot loads. Adequate penetration for winter weight jackets and more pellets than 00 or 000.

Bekeart

Quoting Massad Ayoob:

Quote:
The 20-gauge will always "kick" less than the 12, and it will handle better and faster on quick-moving upland birds. With a buckshot load, the standard 20-gauge shell will fire 20 pellets of #3 buckshot (approximately .25 caliber), which will penetrate to about the same depth at about the same pattern width as the standard 12-gauge "urban load" of #4 buckshot, which comprises 27 pellets (about .23 caliber). The wound paths will be about the same depth and width, and the only difference will be how finely the macerated tissue has been chopped by the projectile paths. "Only the Medical Examiner will know for sure," and then only when he counts the little lead balls recovered from the body, or the white dots on the X-ray of the corpse.
Choate makes a three round extension to fit a Remmy 870.

I think the 870 and extension is likely the way to go.

Mossberg made what you are looking for but I don't know if it's still listed in their product catalog. I gave mine to my son, but I think it was called the "home defender". It's probably all plastic now.

That fancy M-37 makes my '48 model look like it was destiny that over a million would be made.

That's a good looker that even those that don't appreciate the Ithaca must acknowledge.

I'll give what ya paid for it plus shipping...

No wooden stock or forearm but I bought this a few years back. I believe it's called a "Cruiser". It came with a pistol grip but I changed it out with a synthetic stock. It holds nine 20ga. 2 3/4" rounds but can be plugged to hold as many as you want.

The 12ga. is the only Defense with 7+1. The 20ga. Defense is 4+1.

strange when you scroll down it shows the 20ga is avail. with 18 and 20 inch barrels....I assumed the longer barrel also had the longer mag tube like the 12ga.

If you are just looking for less recoil in a defensive shotgun, the solution is to buy the 12ga Federal Reduced Recoil 00 buck 8 pellet shells. Otherwise I concede the 870 maybe the only option.

It's not really a recoil thing. I do like the lower recoil but I'm a big fan of 20ga. for many reasons. Plus, I've already got three 20ga.'s and have loads of ammo. I don't want to get a 12ga. and have to stock up on yet one more caliber of ammo. It's expensive here and with the impending ban it's only going to get more expensive and harder to find for me.

Go with a Remington 870.

Remington does make mag extensions for the 20 gauge.

I know, I had one.

Years ago the St. Louis Metro Police SOD squad had what was referred to a Whippet, 20 gauge, short barrel, and wood pistol grip. I think it was a version of the 870. The SOD squad was so successful that it was disbanded after an article in Time or Post was published about how successful they were in stopping street stick ups, To many perks were dispatched unceremoniously. Whippets just disappeared or so I was told. the whole deal was before my time and I was on in the late 60s.......Story had it street crime sure went down. No wonder!

Had an 870 years ago with the mag extension, took it to the gunsmith and had him cut the barrel even with the extension and mount rifle sights. I used it for a slug gun. IIRC it held 7 rounds and worked very well.

The Remington Youth model 870 in 20 gauge with 21" barrel is my choice for a home defense gun. It's light enough to hold or shoot one handed while opening a door, and the short stock allows for manuverability in tight hallways. Theoretically, followup shots would be faster since it has less recoil than a 12 gauge, but I don't know that for a fact. It holds 5 in the mag plus one up the spout and I never really felt like I needed more rounds than that. I also didn't want to add an extension since it already looks like a typical hunting shotgun, and putting "add-ons" to make it more deadly might complicate things if I ever went to court over a shooting.
