Glock Question
Hi:
I have attempted to add to my knowledge by asking this question on the "Glock Talk" Forum with negative results. I have the opinion that if any firearm knowledge is unknown on this Forum, then the knowledge does not exist.
My question:
What is the differences/improvements between the first, second, third, and fourth generations Glocks?
Thank you,
Jimmy

A quick survey:
1st Gen - Smooth grip, no rail
2nd Gen - More gripping surfaces on grip, no rail
3rd Gen - Finger grooves in grip, rail
4th Gen - Rough Texture Finish (RTF) grip, rail

There are also some pistols that are referred to generation 2.5. They either have the finger grooves and no rail, or no finger grooves and a rail. I don't remember which. And, the frames have been changed to a 3 pin from a 2 pin and the generation 4 pistols have interchangeable back straps.

Also, the Generation 4 pistols can be broken down for cleaning without having to pull the trigger on a closed chamber. There have been several accidental discharges with earlier Glocks, since you can't remove the slide without first pulling the trigger.

RTFs are not Gen 4, they were a Gen 3 revision prior to the Gen 4 release.
The Gen 4s are out and have adjustable backstraps similar to the M&P.
There may be other subtle differences and I'm by no means an expert I'm just sayin'.

Yes, any heavily-used Glock, of any generation or caliber, is worth $350 any day of the week. You may have to replace a trigger spring or something cheap, and then you're good for another 20,000 rounds.
I love my Smiths; I love my Rugers; I respect my Glocks...all of them.
